No, I am not, but during our first semester, one of my classmates brought in a speaker that was in recovery for about 6 years. It was a very positive experience to listen to the trials and tribulations of addiction and how it affected his career.

Kudos to you for being sober for 4 years!

Well, I don't know what you're going through but I first met Bill and Dr Bob in 1979.

Email me if you like. I'm not willing to say more publicly.

Well, not all addictions are related to chemical dependency...

I am trying to recover from compulsive eating disorder by eating healthier food selections, controlling my caloric intake, aerobic exercise 5 times weekly, and avoiding fast-food places. My weight fluctuates wildly, from 115 pounds up to 215 pounds. I am aware that the yo-yo effect cannot be any good for my body.

I am trying to control this aspect of my life for my future health. I do not want to be diabetic, have heart disease, and suffer from a massive stroke because I couldn't control a compulsion.

I'm very proud to say that I am "in recovery". Not sure what you're going through, however. What's up?

And for anyone out there listening, I highly recommend the book by Dr. Allen Carr, "The Easy Way to Quit Drinking".

Im proud to be in recovery too. I almost lost my nursing license though. It took almost losing it to get me to ask for help. After four years, a felony conviction, alot of money, working for minimum wage in jobs I said I'd never do, etc.. I am in the position to get it reinstated. I am on criminal probation and my license is on probation to run concurrent with that. I still have two years left. Had five in all. I am in a peer assistance program for nurses who have been impaired by alcohol and drugs. I feel lucky to be in this state. My original state of licensure doesnt have one. It has been a long road. But one I wouldnt trade for anything. I wouldnt have ever become the person i am today and have the good life I have now without being where Ive been. Im not ashamed to to talk about it especially if it might help another nurse in trouble. And believe me there are plenty of us. I go to a 12 step meeting once a week that is nothing but nurses. And you know it must be rampant for them to create a board for just that. Well what I wanted to ask about was if anyone has went thru this and how much difficulty you had finding work. I dont really want to pass pills but i know Im limited by being an LPN. Does anyone have suggestions for other kinds of nursing jobs Lpns can do?

You sound strong. Keep up the good work. You are very wise to understand what kind of settings would be a problem for YOU.
I would consider working in a clinic, maybe? The only meds you would handle would be injections.
Good luck and congrats!
