Am I ready for NCLEX?

I'm scheduled to take my state boards next Wednesday (Jan 11th) and I just don't feel prepared. I've been using Saunder's Comprehensive review for NCLEX PN and I took the comprehensive test they have in there this morning and a got a 72%. I've been told you should average about 80% when doing questions and tests. I've been doing about 100-150 questions a day...equaling to about 1400-1500 questions total so far. I'm thinking I should change the date but have been told to take is as soon as possible. Am I doing something wrong for preparing or what? Help please!!

Don't continue to delay taking the NCLEX. Your chances of passing are greatest if taken within 2 months of graduation.

You will never feel prepared, so you might as well get it done and over with. This is simply my $0.02 on this issue. Good luck to you!

I agree. My instructors told us to take the test asap. I graduated Dec 14, and took the test Jan.3. I felt that as long as I knew Maslow's, ABCs, and the nursing process I would be all right. I did about 150 questions a day up until 3 days before my test, because I felt myself getting burned out. I passed!! So don't delay!!!

I took the NCLEX on Jan 3. I used Saunders CD to study. I was only getting in the mid to upper 70's on the tests, and did not feel like I was really ready, but a friend told me, that I would never be "ready". So I just studied as much as I could. When I took the test, I was sure that I failed, but I didn't. It shut of at 85 and I found out a few days later that I passed (1st try). I would suggest to continue to study, and take the test as scheduled. The longer you wait, the more you forget, and you truly will never feel ready. I just tried to keep calm, and rationalize my way through the questions, process of elimination. Hope this helps.

Wow-what great advice on here! I never knew about studying the 3,000 questions or 100 a day! I'm glad to know now though!

I'm taking my NCLEX on 2/16/06. I already had bought Delmar and Mosby's but will also look at Kaplan and others recommended if I have time. I graduated 11/18 and this is the first date I could get after I got my ATT. Going to Hawaii right before the test for four days with my husband and my books will go too. I too am nervous and scared, but all of your encouragement and tips is so appreciated! I will be so upset if I fail. Even though I got A's in school, I sometimes feel I know nothing by studying for the boards. I am getting 70's and 80's on the practice tests and probably spend three to five hours a day studying! Help me Lord is all I can say. I'm also taking a chemistry class (towards my RN prereqs) which may have been a mistake at this time? What do you guys think?

Just remember that your science prerequisite classes are only good for 5 years. Once the science class becomes 5 years old, most RN programs will request that you repeat the class.

Most people will recommend that you take other non-science prerequisite classes first, such as English, nutrition, algebra, etc.

The BSN program I am looking at accepts science courses 10 years old.

I tested on Jan 19th, and the week before I went I SERIOUSLY thought about rescheduling for a later date.....it seemed the more I studied the less I knew. I graduated with a 4.0 but felt like an idiot doing some of those questions. But I realized that I had done everything I could do, took around 3000 practice questions and I just needed to go and take the test, I was SO nervous. After the test I had a panic attack because those questions seemed to come from LEFT field, but I PASSED and am SO glad it is over with.

Congratulations!!!!! I feel just like you. I have been studying since I graduated 11/18/05 and feel so stupid like it's just not sinking in. I test on 2/16 and am already thinking I should reschedule and study longer, but I don't think you can ever feel ready for this since you don't know what they'll throw at you. So I'm going to just go do it and hope I can pass. I can't wait for it to be over with either. Lord help me!!!! In California we don't get the results very soon so it will be a wait I'm sure (long stressful wait!).

When I was reading these boards and found out about the wait time in CA, I was so relieved I didn't live there anymore and have to wait that long.....I seriously would have needed MEDICATION.....LOL, I feel for you guys and that wait. My study buddy from class is going on the 13th and she is freaking out because I was so worried that I might have failed, she wanted to schedule for an earlier date to "get it over with" but none were available.

I finally had to accept the fact (late the next day) that I REALLY had done the best I could for the questions I was given, but I was still on pins and needles...........then I check online at 7:15 a.m. and found out I passed and had to contain my urge to scream because hubby and kids were sound asleep.....LOL

Now I am praying for my fellow classmates and the stress they are under.....wishing you luck as well on your BIG day!!!

Cygni, Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you. I hope I can pass on Feb. 16th when I take mine. I will be a wreck I know just like you were. My friend and I are going down to Pasadena, CA to take it together. We both graduated with A's (honor roll) from nursing school but now we feel like idiots when we taken the practice tests and get in the 70's or even 60's sometimes. Help!!! I just hope some of these thousands of questions and information sticks to our brains and we can remember something. How many questions did you have to do? Not sure how long we have to wait for our results (California is the slowest) and we have no access to the two day early unofficial results (boo hoo). I am going to Hawaii the week before the exam with my husband. Wish it was afterwards, I'm sure I'll need it. Thank you for your encouragement.
