A New Graduate Asking About Working As An LVN In TEXAS

I have a question. I'm a new grad, and I might get a job at a nursing home. I interviewed with one today. It went like a blur in my mind. I was so nervous. Anyways, this nursing home had all RNs, no LVNs. Is this legal? And they said I would have to start IVs? Is this legal in the state of Texas? And are LVNs allowed to do the initial comprehensive assessment in a nursing home?

Any advice would be great. Thanks.

I worked as an LVN in Texas for 4 years (2006 to 2010) prior to earning my RN license.

1. Yes, it is legal for a nursing home to hire all RNs. While not cost-effective, there's nothing illegal about this practice.

2. Yes, it is legal for LVNs to start IVs in Texas.

3. Yes, LVNs are allowed to complete the initial assessment in nursing homes in Texas.

Yes, it's legal for a nursing home to be staffed with all LVNs as long as the DON (director of nursing) possesses an RN license.
