I feel like I get this question a lot from friends and family when I tell them I am a nurse. I try my best to put into words what entitles a nurse and what we do. But I always find it hard to explain and in the end comes out sounding easy when it's far from that. Anyone else have this problem? What do you guys say when you get this question?

I only talk in-depth about nursing with my best friend, who also happens to be a nurse. People who lack healthcare backgrounds will never understand; thus, they can only pretend to know what I'm going through.
I avoid talking about what I do with family or acquaintances. If people really press, I will say that I work to help restore disabled and debilitated patients to their highest level of function after they've had strokes, heart attacks, pneumonia, knee replacements, etc.

I save lives and cheat death.
That is my standard answer for that question.
