I have hit a fork in the road and desperately need some advice. I will try to be as brief and to the point as possible. Ok, here goes. Background: I am a single woman in my late forties. I have three grown children (LSU grads) an live alone. I am from Baton Rouge. About two years ago I moved to Saint Louis to be close to my daughter and attend nursing school. I am have taken all my PR's for the ADN-RN program at the local community college. (API, APII, Micro, all the labs, etc...) So, here's the issue. There is a 2-3 year wait list before I can start in the actual nursing program. I only found this out when I went to check on the status of my app this past semester. I was devastated. So, I began looking at other schools in the area all had long wait list as well except for one. So I went through the whole application process, took the entrance exam, an was excepted only to find out that the school is locate in the highest crime area in Saint Louis. (I mean, a dog isn't safe walking own these streets!) So, now that is no longer an option. I did find an LPN school that starts in April. However, if I go that route I feel like I have just wasted 2 years getting all my PR's for the RN program.
So, here I sit in my small apartment trying to sort all this out. I am broke, don't really know anyone, an my daughter has moved 45 minutes away. Oh, and it's 15 degrees to boot! AAAWWW. When I move here my plan was to get my degree, pass the exit exam, and then go back to Louisiana. However, I am now thinking that maybe I should go back and finish my nursing degree in Louisiana. I really miss it! Yet, I am sooooo confused!! I have never had a problem making decisions and I am not a quitter. But, I just can"t figure all this out.
If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I would be so grateful to you if you would share them with me. I look forward to your reply. And, please excuse me if I sound a little like "Wendy Whiner."She's never been one of my favorite people!! Thanks!

- Dec 28, '10 by caliotter3Have you explored nursing school options in LA? Maybe you can find a program there that will fit your timeline better. Since you plan on returning anyway, that sounds like your best option at this point. Good luck.
- Dec 28, '10 by ceegrlThank you for your replies. I will check out the Charity program!
- Dec 30, '10 by pinkpokadotsI agree with the previous posters. Depending on where you're planning on living when you move back to Louisiana, there are plenty of schools here for you to pick from! I've lived all over Louisiana, and here are some of the ones that I've heard of in:
Louisiana Tech, University of Louisiana at Monroe, Grambling University, Delta Community College.
Louisiana College, Northwestern State University, LSU at Alexandria.
LSU in Eunice, McNeese University.
Southeastern University, Baton Rouge Community College, Our Lady of the Lake College, LSU New Orleans, Baton Rouge General Medical Center School of Nursing, Nicholls State University, Charity School of Nursing, Delgado Community College, Loyola University, Southern University.
