Review of Louisiana nursing school option

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

So I am looking at applying for the Accelerated ASN program at Our Lady of The Lake college in Toulane, LA and I was wondering if anyone on here has any experience with this college or knowledge of how well-received a LA nursing degree is across the country.

Any help is appreciated!

I believe Lady of the Lake Hospital is in Baton Rouge and the school has a good reputation.

Our Lady of the Lake is in Baton Rouge, but they have accelerated programs in New Orleans, including at Tulane University Hospital (Not Toulane). I graduated from their accelerated program, but it was held at a different hospital. I am assuming you have a previous bachelor's degree. You will probably need several pre-reqs to get into the program. Be ready to commit for the full 10 months. It is a pretty intense program, but you are done in no time. I had no trouble getting a job when I graduated. Do note that Our Lady of the Lake is a private school, so tuition and fees are higher than they would be at a public university.

Just to offer another option, LSU-HSC in New Orleans has an accelerated BSN program called the CARE program. I am not sure if it is something you are interested in but just thought you might want to check it out.

Good luck in which ever program you pick

Where are you now? Would be glad to help you obtain info you needed from New Orleans. You can reach me at 985-520-1197. I know nurses that have gone to almost every school in the state.

Wow, so much for notification emails!

Sorry I was vague initially but I am more interested in if a nursing degree would carry weight out here in my home state of California.

Anyone got anything on this?

You get licensed in the state you get the degree in or your homestate and then apply for reciprocity anywhere else you want to work.

Does anyone know about the reciprocity agreements with CA and LA?

BTW, Mr. Lewis, I called you last night!

I missed your call, maybe I was asleep. Feel free to try again. You just write the Board of Nursing in the state you desire licensing and they will send you the requirments for licensing . I held a California license at one time and had no trouble getting it. It generally takes a few weeks to get all the paperwork out of the way. Some boards offer temporary licensing while waiting.
