Our Lady of the Lake Accelerated BSN Program?

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

I know this program is still pretty new, but does anyone have any experiences or stories to share about it? I have a previously earned BS under my belt and have about one semester of prereqs to complete before applying for the Spring 2014 Program. I'm extremely anxious. So, some questions are:

Was the application process a nightmare?

If you got in what was your experience?

Does anyone else have plans to apply?

Any personal (or second-hand) horror stories or accolades?

@Skillz

I believe there were 2 options for the ABSN if I'm not mistaking. One in Baton Rouge and the other in Metairie.

Have you heard anything back on your acceptance status for the Spring 2014 Program?

@cadyssa, @lolo22, No I haven't heard back yet, unfortunately. The app deadline was July 15, so it's been a little over a month since the deadline. I'll start getting antsy in the next couple of weeks, but for now I'm just waiting. Is anyone else hearing back yet, or know when the letters will be going out?

Just wanted to announce that I got my letter today. I got in! Now I have a whole new list of problems to worry about. Like where I'm gonna live and how I'm gonna pay for it :-/

Anyone else have news?

How do clinicals work in the accelerated program?

Hello,

I know this board is old, but I am new to the site and I also have been accepted into the OLOL ABSN for Spring of 2014. I am currently on the hunt for a pair of shoes for clinicals. They are all either too expensive, or there is not enough reviews for me to consider buying anything. If anyone has heard any thing on a good pair of shoes, please let me know.

Also, has anyone heard of when we will have orientation or scheduling of classes/clinicals?

Hello to all!!!!!

I'm going to try my best to answer all of your questions. I am a nursing student who started out in the accelerated BSN program (Fall 2012). Relax!!!!!! the workload is heavy but very doable. Test were given in a two/three week time frame. Clinical took place at OLOL hospital, a variety of nursing homes and Womens for OB rotation. (MY OPINION) I would not recommend the accelerated program (MY OPINION). Not because of the workload but the program had WAAAAYYYY too many flaws, seemed thrown together and was not well thought through. I honestly do not believe the program prepares you for NCLEX at all. The program started out with approximately 40 or 45 students. Thirty of us made it to the last course which ended in September. Out of the thirty only sixteen passed to preceptorship. Therefore, remanding fourteen has to move to traditional that starts in January to retake the course. Of course sixteen months "sound" good but if I had to do it over again I wouldn't. I do not want to intimidate anyone or come off as negative, this is just what I experienced. If you have any question you would like answered don't hesitate to ask.

Does OLOL accept credits from BRCC? I need a few pre-reqs (anatomy I&II and biochem)
