Ochsner Neuro ICU

  1. 0 I'm a soon to be new grad nurse and I have accepted a position in the Neuro ICU at Ochsner's main campus in Jefferson. I've heard mixed reviews about Ochsner in general, was just wondering if anyone has experience on this unit specifically and what their thoughts were about working there. Thanks

I personally haven't worked there, but my grandma, an RN of 50 years, worked there for many years! She had no issues as far as I know, and obviously enjoyed it since she stayed for so long. She's at the Baton Rouge campus now and still loves Ochsner! I was born at the Jefferson campus, too haha.

I did a travel assignment there almost a year ago on the Neuro ICU. I am originally from the area, but moved to texas after nursing school, so it really felt like home. Ochsner is the king in Louisiana. I am sure you will here mixed reviews about any hospital... everyone is jealous of who is on top. From my experience, this was a great unit. The nurses are all laid back and easy to get along with. Same goes for the docs. The unit is laid back in general. Everyone was very helpful as well, which I do not always feel as a traveler. I have considered working there when I get done traveling. Do you have any specific questions about Ochsner or the unit?

Hi Everyone, Im joining Ochsner's NeuroICU too early this year. I am bit relieved reading your comment Willisbaw. I have apprehensions too since Im new to NeuroICU. Being a traveler, what do you think will be the challenges and difficulties a new NeuroICU nurse can encounter there? What are the topics/ cases/ procedures we can read ahead so we will join the unit more prepared? Thanks a lot.
