Hi, I will also be attending Charity, but not till fall 05. Can you tell me a little about the clinical rotations? From what I saw online, I assumed you went to class 2 days and clinical one day. Is that right? I will be *attempting* to work a part-time job while going to school, but if its too rough I will use the $ Im putting away now to make it. I would appreciate any insight you could give me. Thanks!!!

    Alissa,

I have Basic Mon 5:30-9:30, lab practice on Tues, clinicals 3:30-8:30 on Wed, Pharm 5:30-8:30 on Thurs for the first 7 weeks. After that I have Basic every Mon and Pharm twice a week every other week and clinicals twice a week every other week. So one week I will have Pham twice and no clinicals and the next week I will have clinicals twice and no Phram. Hope that made some since. We can also go to lab practice on Fri as we see fit. We have to go in early the days we have test also. If you have any other questions I will do my best to answer them. Good Luck on your PAX

    Jemommy,

My mother-in-law bought me a stethoscope from the local unifirm shop, but it's not a very good one I so I was thinking of either returning it or keeping it as a spare. I would really like to get a nice one for school. Everyone I have talked to has said not to because they walk, but I want make sure I can hear what I need to hear...KWIM. I ordered my uniforms from the Elgee, but I don't know if they even placed the orders yet. My Mom actually ordered for me and went a bit crazy...lol. I am getting 3 uniforms and got 2 lab coats. Do you know what is in the nurses pac that we have to have from the book store? I'll probably have my parents pick one up sometime soon. We need so much stuff it is hard to keep everything straight.

Did you appy for any scholarships? I have applied for a few, but no word yet. We'll good luck with everything.

    Nurse Alissa,

My schedule is the EXACT same schedule as Alitia's. In fact, we will be in the same classes on Monday's and Thursday's. We take clinicals at different hospitals though. If you get into the evening division, then it may be easier for you to continue working part-time because classes are at night. However, if you get into the day classes, they usually take up your whole day.

    Alitia,

I heard that the stethoscopes walk too. A friend of mine who has just completed her first semester there said that 1 uniform was more that enough since clinicals are only one day, then two days. We wear regular clothes on the lecture days. I'm not sure what's in the nurse pac that we have to get. I forgot all about that. I know we need goggles, pen light and some other stuff. I know that there is so much to get and I just have to stay organized and prepared. I am supposed to be applying for a couple of scholarships that I have found on Fastweb, but other than that, I pretty much have to get loans, and use my savings. Which scholarships have you applied for? Have you began browsing through your text books? I really want to get some of these concepts down before we start. My friend this semester said that about 40 people failed. You know we only have 80 people in our class. (she's in the evening division also). That's not to discourage you, but to encourage you so that WE WON'T be in that number. I have heard that this is going to be the hardest thing that we have ever had to do. I'm ready for it

Oh, wow. Now that ya'll have said that, Im super worried about trying to work/commute/study!!! What different hospitals do you have the option of doing clinicals at? I hope there is one closer to me :uhoh21: Anyways, I think I understand the whole class-clinical rotation thing. So I should plan on going to N.O. 3-4 days a week, right?? When you say you have lab practice on Tue, what times are those? Is it up to you? Wow this is just all so confusing!!!
Thanks for all the great help!

    Jemommy,

I have heard it is very hard I just hope I have what it takes to get though. I would like to eventually get my BSN and go to CRNA school. I have been reading through my books (all but the dosage book), but I really should buckle down more than I have been. I have a bunch of the Made Easy books so I am going to read those also. I have been told by quite a few people that 1/2 of the students drop out or fail the first semester....ahhhhh. Maybe we can study together...can you friend save the test~ Did you get any of the books that we on the recommened list? I only have the 4 required books so far. What scholarships did you appy for on Fastweb? There were so many, but most were for very small amounts of money and you had to write a paper..I guess I'm just too lazy. Lots of hospitals pay off student loans so at any rate I hope I can find one to do that for me. Do you have a little girl or boy....how old? Hope to hear back from you soon.

    Alissa,

Lab practice can be done anytime in the evening if you are in night classes or in the day if you are in day classes. This semester evening classes can pick from University, Charity, or VA for clinicals. I think the day classes have the same options along with a hospital in Covington..there may be others, but I don't think so. Feel free to ask if you have any other questions.

    Alitia,

If God says the same, I'll be getting my CRNA license too . I would like to go to LSU Anethesia School (because its conveniently close), so therefore, I will have to get my BSN also. They do not let us keep the test so my friend was not able to save any of the test. The only book that I have off of the recommend list is the test-taking book "Fundamentals Success" . I still can't answer any of the questions because they are all about Basics. I haven't ACTUALLY applied for any of the Fastweb scholarships yet. I'm really not in the essay writing mood. I applied for a whole bunch last year and never got any, so I'm kind of skeptical. I hope I can also find a hospital to pay off my student loans. That would be great. My daughter is two years old. She'll be three in July. She's beautiful, I wish I could scan a picture to put on here. I'm not that advanced yet. I haven't opened up the Dosage calculation book yet. I kind of feel overwhelmed with all that we will be getting into and I think (subconsciously) I'm trying to take it easy because I know that it'll be much harder later on.

Im so glad to hear that you think there is a hospital in Covington I can do my clinicals at. That would help soooo much (I live in Mandeville). I believe its Lakeview, but I may be wrong. A girl there told me that Charity brings students there to shadow but thats all she said. I will have to ask if its clinicals also. I really appreciate all your insight and you guys will have to keep me posted on how hard the classes really are!!

    I made a 147 on the PAX.
Wow! A 147! I took the PAX Saturday at Delgado and I don't think I did so well. I studied with the Review Guide, but when 5 minutes were called, I had a lot of answers left blank and I ended up quessing all 'Bs.'

How is the test scored? I hope I get at least a 100 so I can apply to Charity. Any advice? How long did it take for you to get your score? I'm a nervous wreck.

I took the PAX on Sat too. It was REALLY hard for me too. I was hardly awake since I had to drive from the Northshore. I didnt finish the math part, so I went back and randomly chose letters. I also got the review guide and it was nothing like the test!! I hear you have to make 100 out of the 200 questions right to get in. Its 100 in any combo from the subjects, as I have heard. It takes 2-3 weeks to get results in the mail.

Does anyone know the differences between Charity's day program and evening program? Are they pretty much the same? I'm curious to find out if the evening program is better?
