I am very interested in attending BRCC's nursing program, the only thing is I have heard that they only have 60 postions available and I am wondering how to Enusre that i have a spot. Anyone how has any information or is attending BRCC, any information will help me out greatly.

Thanks

good luck to u as well jackie brcc, i worked very hard myself with making a 94 on the hesi and having a 3.7 gpa and i was finally excepted after my second try, and that was after i got my letter from southern. i have a friend that is a lpn that just left brcc program because she said they are very unorganized, the only reason i sympathize with the people that are upset about brcc program is because i went through the same thing, but i hope u do well and good luck!!!

Thanks, I am really excited! Again, I'm sorry you, and others have had so much trouble with BRCC's application process. I have some really good friends who are in the same boat, and didn't get accepted because of the prereq thing. :crying2: I was really looking forward to going through NS with them.

I personally haven't had any problems with BRCC at all. I have loved all my classes, most of my classmates, all but one of my teachers (an Algebra class that I dropped!), advisors, etc. I hope I'm not jinxing myself! :lol2:

JackieBRCC, congratulations on getting accepted. I spoke with the dean of nursing at BRCC and she told me that I would not have any problems getting accepted anywhere else b/c I have such a high GPA, but I would never be accepted at BRCC (even in the future) b/c I have not taken any classes there. I cannot retake the classes b/c I got all A's and 1 B, and they will not take into consideration that I took those classes in 2006 (before the nursing program was established). I'm very upset b/c I sent an email to the dean before I applied asking if there was a chance that I could get accepted w/o having taken my classes at BRCC. I was told that there was still a chance that I could be accepted (I still have a copy of the email); that is the only reason that I applied. I was lied too, and I spent over $100 to apply there. If I was told upfront that there was no chance of me being accepted I would not have wasted my time or money. This is the reason that I feel like the selection process was not fair. I also have the name of the woman who told me that there was no space available; she works in the admissions office.

I don't blame you for being upset. I am guessing that when you first inquired about going to BRCC, and was told you had a chance of being accepted, the administrators didn't realize that they would have so many applicants from within. Maybe at the time you first inquired, it was still possible to get in because probably the majority of the applicants had all taken their prereqs elsewhere. That isn't the case now, and it's just their policy to give a few extra points towards admission, if you've taken your prereqs at BRCC. Since there are now so many applicants from within BRCC, they probably now realize that people trying to transfer in, will more than likely never be high enough on the list because of that prereq rule. Like I said before, I have several friends who are in the same boat and did not get accepted b/c of the prereqs at BRCC rule. Since you have such a high GPA, I honestly don't blame you for not wanting to retake those classes. For me, personally I was in the same position. I had taken all my prereqs (from LSU Shreveport), but decided that the cost of retaking them at BRCC was worth it because of 1.) the refresher I would get from having extra exposure to the material, and 2.) It was still cheaper to retake them and get into BRCC (BRCC is such a good value for such a good education), rather than pay the tuition at OLOL, or Southeastern. It's just a personal choice, and you have to do what is best for you. I'm so sorry things didn't work out for you. I hope you find a solution that you are at peace with.

I'm sorry you had the same problem I did. I also had taken all my pre reqs before they even had the program at BRCC. I wanted to go there because it's local and a heck of a lot cheaper than OLOL. I'm at Southeastern doing the LPN to BSN bridge. Four semesters at BRCC for an ADN or five @ Southeastern for a BSN....it was a no brainer for me. I'm happy now I DID NOT get accepted at BRCC. Good luck to you! :redbeathe

Thanks, I know that everything happens for a reason, but I was just hoping to get done quickly, and like I said I'm really upset that I was misled. LSU was always my first choice, but I didn't want to do the extra year. I'm from New Orleans, so LSU will probably be a better fit for me anyway. Thanks.

I just got accepted into the nursing program at BRCC.

thanks

Congratulations! I am entering my 3rd semester this Fall. Will be graduating next Spring! I love BRCC's program, and I'm sure you will too!

Jackie, it's been over a month since pinning and I still cannot believe I survived the program. Haha. You are going to do awesome in 220 and 212.

I'm starting BRCC in the fall to finish up my 16 hours of pre reqs (I already have a few from Slu). I'm planning on applying to the nursing program in January but I was told by one of the advisors that there was absolutely no way I would be accepted into the program with just my 16 hours of pre reqs. After the fall semester I will be done with all of my pre reqs except for bio 230 (which I plan to take in the spring because I have to complete bio 120 first).

I'm just super confused I'm just trying to figure out if anyone on here has gotten in with just the 16 hours of pre reqs!! So I hope to get some advice from someone!

One thing I forgot to mention, the advisor told me that in order to have a chance to get in I needed to finish all of my general education before I even think about applying to nursing school. So is this true? I know that it says you only need the 16 hours on the website and I'm sure you'd have an advantadge by having all of the general education completed, but what are my chances of getting in with just those 16 hours?

I think they have done surveys with the graduates and the more general education classes you have completed (especially A&P2 and micro), the more likely you are to finish the program in four semesters.

It is possible to get in with only the 16...but I would also try to complete A&P2, micro, and stats. The art/humanities class and English 102 could probably be put off without a problem.
