Applying to the Accelerated Nursing Program at OLOL College

U.S.A. Louisiana

Published

I will be applying to the accelerated nursing program at OLOL college for the Fall of 08. I was just wondering if any past graduates or students who are curretly in the program could share with me any of your credentials that got you accepted into the program, such as GPA, medical experience, etc.

I believe that I exceed the minimum requirements. I have a Bachelor's and a Master's degree, but I have no prior healthcare experience. Any responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I applied my first time and got accepted to both the NO and BR accelerated programs. The BR program just got enacted this past spring which is why I got accepted to both, they told me just to choose which class I wanted to be considered for. So I'm in the first class they've had at the BR campus, Class of 2008. I have a Bachelor's in Health Science and graduated from college in 2006. I never calculated my GPA, but if I had to guess I'd say my overall was about a 3.1-3.2, and my pre-req GPA was about a 3.0-2.9. I had no prior medical experience but have been working in an ER to get exposed to medical procedures and ER nurses. I've very excited and I've heard nothing but great things about their nursing department. Good luck.

lilyellowmama4ya,

How soon did you apply to the program?

I am currently enrolled in the New Orleans Accelerated program. We just started last Tuesday and it's already been QUITE an experience! I'm so fortunate to have been accepted and am grateful.

My credentials: BA in Psychology.

Master's in Psychology.

4 years experience in two different hospitals.

Overall GPA around 3.75.

Go ahead and finish up your prereqs.

One recommendation: take medical terminology now. I didn't and now have to take it at school. It would give me a lot more free time right now if I would have taken it before.

lilyellowmama4ya,

How soon did you apply to the program?

I began applying for the NO program last fall, a few months after I had graduated from college. I had been deciding between PA school and nursing, but went with nursing because I wanted to be able to move around in specialities a little bit. The applications for the BR program were due the middle of April and I didn't do anything accept fill out another application for the BR program. I got asked for interviews to both but went with the BR program. Because it only got approved this spring, my classes do not start until October 1st and we go until end of July, beginning of August of 2008. I think they needed the extra time to get more organized. Also there is no stipend program with the BR program, and there isn't any work contract with OLOL med center. I'm so excited.

Ecbnola,

I took medical terminology in college and so did several other of my classmates and everyone has to take it again except one girl who said they accepted her class. I'm not sure why they didn't accept my class but I agree if you don't have to take, you have more time for your nursing classes.

I just got accepted for the OLOL Tulane campus. Could someone tell me the dates of the program? Like when it roughly starts and ends.

Is there anyone willing to share program experiences?

Specifics about the pace and schedule would be most appreciated.
