Hospital Shopping

I am graduating from my nursing school this December and I am having major problems deciding on where to work in the Baton Rouge area. I go to school in New Orleans but I'm getting married and will be moving to BR next spring after I graduate and pass my boards...I know a lot about New Orleans hospitals since I've done all my clinicals here and done tech work but not too much about BR.

I worked in an ER this summer and enjoyed my experience, but I'm not 100% sure I want to do that type of nursing and work at the hospital I'm currently at in Baton Rouge. So, I am thinking about going "hospital shopping" - basically I want to find out what benefits and salaries the hospitals around BR offer. I emailed several human resources contacts in a couple of hospitals to find out if I can spend a day with a nurse on a unit just to get a feel of what their hospital environment is like. Are there any other major questions I should ask while "shopping around?" Is there a certain way to do this? Any tips would help. It's just so hard for me to make a decision based on my lack of knowledge.

Thanks!
