workers comp cases

by amyrn5

Hello everyone. I am a new LNC from Pennsylvania. I became certified through the ASLNC last May but have not been able to get any work yet. I spoke with an attorney last Monday and he thought I might have some luck doing workers comp. cases. The ASLNC exam was primarily Medical Malpractice, Product Liability and Toxic Tort and I'm not exactly sure what I could offer a workers' comp. attorney other than Medical Record Review and attendance at an IME. Does anyone do Workers' Comp. or have any input?

Hello amyrn,
I have been doing some Workers' Comp. cases, which are also my first cases. What I have been asked to do is to go through the file that the attorney has received, write up a short report with a summary of my opinions of the file. I was told right off the bat from the attorney that they do not make much on these cases so I had to negotiate my fee with him. I was glad to have my first cases and at least I am getting some experience in dealing with any attorney. I figure some experience is better than no experience!

Thanks for your response. Do you include research about specific injuries in your summary? Did you have a chance to attend an IME?

Also, I'm not sure if we are permitted to speak about fee's but I could use some input. I recently was told by a med. mal attorney that my fee's were significantly too high. I was actually thinking they were on the low side.

Congrats on getting some work. I just read your recent posts.

I have not attended an IME, they are done already by the time I get the file (so far at least). I do some research, but very limited due to the fee agreement (which the attorney is aware of).
I have talked with a few LNC's about the fee situation, if you want to send me private mail, I can let you know what they said.
