Anyone doing legal nursing?

by NicBSN

Hello everyone! I have been an ICU nurse for 13 years (Peds and adult) with a little research in there too! I am interested in pursuing Legal Nurse Consulting but I would really like to find out about personal experiences of those practicing in this area before I take that BIG leap! I need to hear about the realities of this career. Can anyone help turn me in the right direction?

I work in a very large Detroit hospital and love ICU nursing...I am just craving something fresh. The thought of being my own boss is very appealing and I love the law.

Thanks!

Yes, many here are LNCs and are educated by different entitites. You can do a research here in this forum on the different avenues available.

Sounds as if you have an excellent background and you definitely have the love of the law.

Welcome NicBSN and hdorsey,
This is a great avenue to persue. But I won't "sugar-coat" it, it takes lots of hard work. You can make it work, it doesn't matter if you choose to work in-house or work as an independent consultant. I'm independent and I combined my LNC practice and my Forensics nursing practice and work mostly criminal cases (elder abuse/neglect, child abuse/neglect, domestic violence, sexual assault, fraud, etc). I also remain clinically active at the hospital. Which ever program you choose, good luck, and you will find lots of support from this group. When you do become LNCs, get involved with your local AALNC and National chapters, they're invaluable as far as keeping on top of current issues.
