Charity and early acceptance

A girlfriend of mine, whom I work with at an ob-gyn here in louisiana told me she got accepted for an earlier term than she applied for because of her scores and grades... has this happened to any of yall??? I have pretty good scores.. all As in my pre-reqs and an 88 on the TEAS... my husband is in the coast guard so we are on a time table and i am applying for spring of 2010 but would love if i could get in a semester early because we ship out of nola early 2011. ugh i just want to finish!! anyway has this happened to anyone else besides my friend?!?!?

Are you aware that Charity is 4 semesters long? Even if you got in for fall 09, you still would graduate in May 2011.

The deadline for fall 09 has passed, I am unaware if they do any special circumstances. You should email the admissions office for advice. Otherwise, an 88 is competitive for admissions. I believe the deadline for spring 2010 was pushed to sometime in February.. but double check.

yea an adviser told me this but also noted that i was finished with all the pre-reqs that many nursing students take during their enrollment at charity... i have everything, apII and micro already so i only have the actual nursing courses left... she said, bc husband is military i could get some type of waiver and take the classes as needed to graduate before we leave... only bad thing was she said i wouldnt have a "graduating class" to go through the hard times with... id be jumping ahead and wouldnt be able to walk with anyone in an actual ceremony....

You might want to double check that information because there is no accelerated program to skip you ahead in classes. A lot of us started having all of ours pre reqs finished and it is still four full complete semesters. We also have other people whose spouses are in the military and they are going semester by semester like the rest of us.

why would she go through all that bull honkey about not having a "graduating class" then... i went up to get an application package and a lady standing there asked me my name, identified herself as an advisor and asked if i had any questions... i asked how classes are taken and told her my situation and she told me what i told yall. ugh i guess it doesnt matter, we aren't leaving until june... im going to have to go back up there and get the name of that lady... im superiorily confused now thanks for the info though hs2005 my eyes are open! =)

I would go back and discuss it with that person again and then I would ask for it in writing. I have just heard of too many people being give incorrect information only to find out when it was too late to do anything about it. Good luck to you!

yeah, i've never heard of jumping ahead...how would that work? each semester has clinicals and you need instructors to do your clinicals with...can't take multiple classes on top of each other...in my group there was only one girl taking a&p2 concurrently with basics. everyone else had the sense to get all prereqs out of the way before ns started.

kwest210,
I kind of feel I may have given you a blunt response so I'd like to respond again.
For one thing.. Charity is a fantastic school however they seem to have a lot of "assistants" around their office and are rather uninformed. Also, make sure you spoke to Charity SON directly, and not Delgado... that would yield even more confusion. Delgado "main" has no idea what they specific programs really do.. they know some.. but can't really answer anything. I have ran circles around people at Delgado.. the school itself is like an adult trying to wear diapers and they are having growing pains/still experiencing post-Katrina problems. I heard a great deal of this from a professor who wanted so bad for Delgado to grow and continue on a path to becomming a more successful school. (Delgado has a good bit of issues with local 4 year schools and transfering credits, Delgado is trying hard to make their programs and courses more comparable to 4 year schools but its hard to do when they are .. well a community college... don't get me wrong here.. but it's essentially the truth).

It doesn't necessarily matter if "all you have left is nursing courses"... Charity is "setup" like this.. http://www.dcc.edu/campus/charity/rn...cks/index.html
where they "expect" students to take "degree courses" along with nursing courses. However, since there is that year time frame to be admitted, most students complete their "degree courses" prior to nursing courses.
I know plenty students who have completed everything except NURS courses, however they still play the waiting game.
And again.. I am just trying to inform you what I know and hope I can help you get the right information.

As far as "jumping ahead" I believe the the BON regulates how and when the nursing courses are to be taken. It would be unbelievable to take say basics of nursing, pharm, and nac 1... you would not be able to because you need basics and pharm prior to nac 1. You need the skills learned in nac 1 as a precursor to taking parent/child and mental health.. and you certainly cannot take nac2 without any of the above. Not to mention the lecture and clinical hours are enough as is, to take two semesters worth simultaneously is insanity. And I am sure, not recommended..

I have not heard of "not having a graduating class" .. maybe the person thought you wanted to transfer? People hear strange things sometimes if they don't give you undivided attention... never know!

I would recommend checking out Our Lady of the Lake (OLOL)'s accelerated RN program, I believe it is shorter than Charity too.. which would work to your benefit. There is a new RN program coming around or is already around but I've only briefly heard about it.. anyone know? Ask around.

Hope this kind of helps you a little. Best bet is to email them and get it all in writing so when it comes down to "he said she said ..BS" you have it in writing.

From the information bulletin:

Acceptance letters are mailed by mid December for the next Fall class and by the middle of June for the next
Spring class.
