It's four degrees outside!

I love being from KY and all but this morning it was four degrees. My anatomy class was frigid, some fool had the air turned on over the weekend and the department chair left a window open back on Friday when it was 70 degrees and that helped to let in the cold air. I was hoping for a pretty snow covered hills type winter not frostbite and pnuemonia. Oh to be spring time with the beautiful wildflowers, gentle streams, returning song birds. Can we say melodramatic! :) My feet are still numb.

My point you may ask, whats the weather like where you are from today? Hopefully warmer than four.

I refuse to stop, the wind chill makes it feel like it is ten below zero, the actual temp is 20. We have hours of this left. they are predicting three+ inches.

I refuse to stop, the wind chill makes it feel like it is ten below zero, the actual temp is 20. We have hours of this left. they are predicting three+ inches.

LOL! I'll take this relatively MILD winter weather anyday over the 98 degree nearly 100% humidity crap that plagues this state during the summer for weeks on end. I'm definately moving north after I graduate.

I'm with the person who said that this weather is better than 98 degrees and humid! I prefer mild temperatures myself. I like a nice sunny September day in the 60's!!

I am kinda longing for nice, warm weather right now, though.

It wouldn't be so bad if I could feel my toes and hands. It has actually gotten up to 23 degrees farenheit,negative 5 degrees celsius at the current time. The meteorologists are saying that snow showers are possible today. I have class and I am going to give blood today. I will probably freeze to death. I wonder what my professors would say if I showed up for class with a space heater? Some of the girls in the nursing program took the blankets off of the beds in the nursing lab yesterday to keep warm.

I enjoy reading your posts, your quite comical. I live in metro Detroit, but we are contemplating moving to Pike Co., Ky. Most of my family are there. My mother as well as myself and my kids and husband are up here in the North, where 4 degrees is not uncommon in winter here. I think the lowest we got down to was 6 below back in December. Anyhow was wondering where you go to school and how do you like your nursing program?. I am finishing up pre req classes at a local cc here. If we do move down there I would have to resume my schooling. Do you have any suggestions on schools in the area? My mother went to Pikeville College, but that is way to rich for my blood. I am receiving a Pell grant and I don't think there would be enough cash for Pikeville college there. Well hope to hear back from you.

Pikeville College is a bit costly, I recomend Big Sandy Community and Technical College. In 1996 the state dept. of education consolidated all of the community and technical colleges into the Kentucky Community and Technical College System which makes things far cheaper. I took out some Federal Stafford Loans. Your choices are Big Sandy Community and Technical College has the ADN RN, Pikeville College has the ADN RN as well, the University of Virginia Wise Campus is in the region they offer a BSN program.

I am satisfied with my college expirience.

Thanks for replying and for the info. I did bring up the tech college website and was looking at their nursing program. They don't require as many pre reqs as my cc here in Michigan. Where do you plan on working at when your done? I wrote to Pikeville Hospital and they responded and said they start out new grad nurses at 17 something an hour. That is a bit lower than up here in the north country, but the cost of housing and ect. is a bit lower in Pike Co., that is also a reason we want to move out of this place. The cheapest you can rent a house is 800 a month and that is usually a dump. The average cost is 1200 and up a month. Apartments around here are a bit cheaper but the neighbors are not the kind I want to live by. At least in my little neck of the woods. It is mostly subsidized housing around here, with that brings alot of wrif wraf. We are hoping to move down there soon. Good luck with your schooling, how many more semesters do you have to go?

Today it was 72 degrees--nice but short. It April it will be in the upper 80's. In May it will be in the upper 90's to lower 100's. In the summer months it easily reaches 110 degrees :angryfire with around 80-100% humitiy. It feels like you stepped into a sauna. I absoultely hate, hate, hate it here. I can't wait to leave. Why anyone would choose to stay here is totally beyond my comprehension.

Well here in Michigan we have long, cold winters. It doesnt really warm here until June or July, then it is short lived. It gets cold again in October. Last summer I don't think we had a single summer night that was warmer than the 50's or 60's. It is absolutely freezing up here right now. A balmy 26 degrees, this morning on my way out to class it was a whole 6 degrees. So I guess we are at opposite sides of the thermometer. I want to move where it is warmer and easier on the bones. This cold weather is getting to me and I have lived here many, many years. I don't think I could hack the heat in Texas either though and you all get those tornados and hurricanes sometimes. Good luck on your search for a better climate.
