Galen Louisville Roll Call July 2014

U.S.A. Kentucky

Published

So I start nursing school in July 2014 at Galen in Louisville. I will be in the 24 month RN program. I am nervous and excited at the same time. I am transferring in 4 of the general ed classes. I will be commuting from Fort Knox, and it would be great if I could find some people to car pool. It would also be great to get some feedback from current students already in the program as well as graduates.

Anyone else starting this July? Which program? What is your commute?

Hi, I will also be attending Galen in Louisville starting July 7th for the RN program. I'm coming from the other side of Louisville though, from the Simpsonville area, so that won't help on your car pool issue :( And as far as the program itself, I have a couple of friends who started this past April, and they said they love it!!

congratulations! I've been looking at this school for a while, so glad to hear you're friends like it hollywood502. I'm moving to the area and hope traffic isn't too bad if I attend there. I hope you will post your experience because I would really like to know what to expect...

Thanks!!! Traffic shouldn't be too terribly bad, depending on the the area you move to and the time you are traveling to your classes.

I am thinking of starting a blog/journal of my journey in becoming a nurse. Not only for others to read about my experience and what it is like in nursing school, but also for myself to look back on as well. Because I think we don't realize what we are going through at the time of it all, and it's only when we look back and reflect, that we can see the journey as a whole and realize just how crazy it all was! :)

That is a great idea  You will definitely have a lot to look back on. Just think of how much you will grow and change over the next 2 years! I am super excited about the idea of moving to the area and going to this school. If you blog let me know, I would love to read it.

I will def let you know! Keep in touch and let me know if/when you move to town. Good luck in your journey :)

I am also commenting from Ft Knox….we sign in first week of August. I'm looking forward to hearing about your experience.

Not starting in July, but I'll be taking my PAX tomorrow (7/12) for the Oct. 2nd start date. Wicked nervous, been studying for months. I'm a non-trad student so I had to basically re-teach myself everything math. Those of you who started this month I wish you luck. I'm sure I'll pass some of you in the hall ways to and from class!

Chaotika,

I am going to take the PAX RN tomorrow....How was it for you? Any tips?

I hope you did well.

Good luck taking the PAX! I'm sure you'll do just fine. The science part was kinda rough, some of the questions were worded weird. If you've studied at all though you'll be fine. You only need a score of 100 to pass, and I got a 122. I am really super bad at math though. I basically had to re-teach myself how to crunch numbers and fractions and all that jazz after being out of school 11 years. It's all done on a computer, and you'll get scrap sheets of paper. If at any point in time during your test you get a pop up box saying something about how your connection timed out, or something failed to load, just hit the try again button. The test automatically saves where you left off.

The test took me a little under 3 hours to complete. Once you start you can do any section whenever you want, you don't have to wait for other people to take breaks. Reading is first, then math, then science. 60 or 80 questions for reading, 54 for math, and then I think 80 for science. I can't remember, I've tried to black that day out. I stressed forever over the math part, that when I was done all I wanted to do was give my brain a break for a couple months before starting school.

I will say that my experience with the admissions, financial aid, and registration departments at Galen have been awesome thus far. My emails are always answered promptly and I always get a return call back when I call. I know you'll do just fine. Just show up a little early, anywhere from 15-20 minutes early and you'll have plenty of time to turn in study guides, get things copied, or go to the bathroom. Let us know how you did!

I passed, Thanks for the advise!

Congrats! I'm happy for you :)
