Forum for BCTC students begining in the FALL 2010

U.S.A. Kentucky

I just wanted to start a thread for students entering BCTC's Fall 2010 ADN nursing program!!!

all questions comments welcome...

CONGRATULATIONS EVERYONE!!!

I was told initially that after we turned in our acceptance paperwork that we would receive a packet with all the information about our books, scrubs, what they expect us to do over the summer (reading, etc) and immunization information. So far, I haven't heard anything except about immunizations and that brief note in blackboard...

No I have only gotten info from Blackboard so far. Just an FYI, the Varicella (Chicken pox) titre or immunization must be done, not just an oral history of Chicken Pox as it was originally stated when we applied. I wasn't sure so I asked Emily and this info was verified. I am sure the most other people figured this out but for people like me who don't love being poked and prodded unnecessarily, I wanted to be sure.

Thanks for the info! I am seriously considering holding out to apply for EKU instead. I am so worried about all of the stories about how disorganized the program is and what I am reading here is just backing that up.

Also I second the recommendation about taking micro with Dr. Otis, he is a great professor and really cares about his student's success.

Yeah, I have also heard some very worrisome second-hand stories about the program from students in the nursing program. If they are all true and I was able to put off another 6 months to a year to get into another program I would... but I am not. Being a single parent is tough and I am just going to have to deal with the craziness as it comes. Honestly, I feel blessed to get in a nursing program anywhere (except one of those rip-off career colleges, if you have a pulse and are willing to drown in debt you can get in!). Well I hope you do decide to stay if you can... so we can gripe back and forth about the problems! lol

I wouldn't go to MSU the ADN program is crap... you basically have to teach yourself there

I am really having doubts about this program. I am still waitlisted and thought by now, enough people would have decided not to go. I am annoyed that the program is not very helpful about answering questions, bordering on being outright rude, when responding to polite emails asking valid questions. I am a professional, mature student with a bachelor's degree already, not an ignorant high school student. The lack of communication and information is appalling and typical for this program according to what I have heard from current students.

I wish I could afford Midway or wait to go somewhere else. It seems like that because they have a huge line of students wanting to go the program at BCTC, that they can do as they please. I have had wonderful experiences with other classes and professors at the school that aren't in the nursing department.

I am off of the waitlist and officially accepted today!!!! I am going to go tomorrow to sign my papers and should be able to register next week. I still have no idea how I am going to make it work, but I will.

BGEXOTICS-- Congrads! I just talked to someone who was waitlisted as well. Mind if I ask what number you were? This lady was fairly high on the list and wanted to provide a little hope to tell her someone else got in who was waitlisted! I am just finishing BIO 139... holy crap, that was a HARD summer class. Are you taking any summer classes? Congratulations again!

I was number 8 on the list. Now I am trying to figure out what section I am supposed to register for. The ones that have class times listed are all full, the only open sections just have TBA for class times. I really need to know when my classes are so I can plan with my work and family schedule.

I would think they would work the wait-list admission students into the groups they have already formed. Maybe contact the nursing admin to see if they even have a tentative schedule for the TBA. I have also heard that the schedules now may not be the exact same as the section the student signed up for... that was what happened last fall apparently.

I was in the MSU BSN program and quit. I switched to ACTC's ADN program and it was the best decision I have ever made!! All nursing programs seem unorganized because there is a crazy amount of information to process and things to get done. It doesn't matter what program you enter into, as long as you stay focused & organized you should be fine!

Where is the cheapest place to get the Varicella (Chicken Pox) vaccine in/around Lexington? I have all my immunizations done for the nursing program but that. I have checked the health department and it is $140 there and Bluegras Community Health is $95. Seems like alot!

Thanks!

Check with The Little Clinic which operates inside of Kroger, they seem to be pretty cheap. I like the one at the Richmond Rd. Kroger, both of the NPs that work there are nice.
