There were students out in the parking lot with their pants rolled up and socks off. They were wading through water to get to their cars to move them and then had to come back into class. We were not even warned by the staff that there was flooding going on. We didn't know about it until we went on a break and saw it for ourselves. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!!
Wow, I agree totally. That was very unprofessional on there part. I received a call from admissions today, after waiting to hear if I was excepted or not, finally they were able to tell me classes were full. I am glad I wasn't excepted. I think it's a blessing in disguise. I will bridge over from LPN to RN at a local community college and save thousands of dollars.
Thanks for sharing.

Still selling the future accreditation! I was really not impressed with Galen at all! I still can't figure out why the tuition is so high. I am getting ready to move the the Miami/Hollywood, Fl area. I might look for a school there eventually!

Oh this too...from Businessweek.com:
Galen Health Institutes Inc., a private nursing college that Humana Inc. started in Louisville in 1990, recently gained accreditation and will change its name to Galen College of Nursing.
The accreditation from the Council on Occupational Education will mean that Galen can enroll nursing students into a new associate of science in nursing degree -- a registered nursing program.
The school already has offered a one-year licensed practical nurse, or LPN degree. The RN degree requires an additional year of study and general education courses.
The RN program also was approved by the Kentucky Board of Nursing.

Yes they have the accreditation of the COE! The same accreditation that hair salon schools have! LOL
If you go to the COE website, you can see what type of schools are accredited by them.

The bottom line is that Galen is working to improve their program status and making connections with other schools, but they don't have the accreditation that most higher education institutions require for admission.

If you just want to stay in the local area then Galen is fine, but if you want to go anywhere else in the U.S and further your education, you have to pay dearly.

Your only option nationwide is University of Phoenix, which offers a RN to BSN program and has a relationship with Galen to accept it's credits. The only problem with that is that University of Phoenix is charging $486 a credit hour.

If Galen would get better accreditation, then furthering your education would be much cheaper. There are a ton of schools nationwide and on-line that offer an RN to BSN program, but with an associate degree from Galen, you are not eligible to take advantage of them.

It just really depends on what your future education goals are and if you plan on attending any schools outside of the local area.

Actually, I graduated from Galen in May 2008 and was accepted into UK's RN-BSN program with no problem, I wasn't able to go for financial reasons but if I ever get to move back to KY I know I'll be able to go. The university itself didn't recognize Galen's credits, but UK's College of Nursing does as the school is approved by the KBN. Granted I had most of my gen ed credits from another school, not Galen. So saying you can't go to any other school other than Indiana Weslyan or University of Phoenix just isn't true. Yes, you must do your research and decide for yourself which is the best option for you....but for many, many, many people Galen was the best option.

I find it amazing how people complain about the cost of Galen, but it's for the most part a private school. Private schools are expensive, have you seen Bellarmine's tuition? Personally to me, the cost meant that only people serious would go because you care a whole lot more about your studies if it costs alot imho. Did I wish it cost less, you betcha. But community college was not an option for me because of the sheer age of some of my college credits. By the time I would have retaken all the classes the community college wanted me to retake, I might have well enrolled in a 4 year program.

Galen has it's problems, all schools do. If you know of a perfect nursing program that acts professional at all times and is able to please everyone all the time....I'd love to get my BSN there.

Just my 2 cents

Hello Jsadler,
I am waiting on my acceptance packet and it's killing me. I heard from Maggie Claypoole who is the admissions manager that acceptance packets will not be sent out untill the third week of August so don't start panicking yet! I have also learned that they now do acceptance in waves of how cpat test scores beginning with the 180-190 range and even if your score is lower you will more than likeley get in but you may have to wait for a different semester. I got a 172 on my CPAt which makes me even more nervous. One thing in our favor though is that they no longer administer the CPAt so I would think they would accept all the CPAt test takers before the PAX-PN test takers. This is definiteley worse than waiting on the test results!! Good luck and you are certainly not the only one waiting anxiously!
