Anyone work at SHPS or Humana?

I have worked for Humana (not as a nurse) in the Finance Department. If you don't think bedside nursing is for you then I think this would be a good idea. The nurses at Humana have it made in the shade! Seriously! Humana also has positions for nurses where you can work from home. They also have awesome benefits that start the day you start, which is really nice! The environment is just like any other place where you have to work in cubicles, but if you don't mind that then it is all good.
As far as SHPS goes, I have heard that they have a high turnover, but I don't know if that is just customer service or what.

I used to work for SHPS. You can work from home after 6 months with them, too. Some dept.'s do have a high turnover, and the overall environment can be very paternalistic in a physician-driven kind of way.

At any rate- I did like working for them, and I got a bit more respect from the MDs there than many of my colleagues who deserved more than what they got. I only left, because I couldn't work 40 hours while in grad school any more, and they don't do part time.

Oh- and Humana pays way more. Lots of the turnover was due to people leaving SHPS for Humana, because the pay was much better for the same job descriptions.

The opportunities to move up are not desirable. I wouldn't do management there for a 6 fig. salary. They are 50-100% in-office.

The pay does increase nominally with time, but not as well as Humana's pay structure, from what I hear. Plus, your group works on contract with national employers (your patients are their employees). If the employer doesn't renew their contract, you are at risk for being laid off and let go.

It is a moderately laid-back corporate environment, depending on who your manager is. I was blessed with a very laid back & flexible mgr (as long as you got your work done), but there are some that are micromanagers to the nth degree there.

I didn't get bored at all. I had about 350 clients I was working with, and I really enjoyed interacting with them, and helping them to improve their outcomes. It was actually pretty rewarding work. I did feel a bit isolated working from home, but I kept Allnurses on my laptop, and socialized here between patients. ;-)

I was offered the same pay I was making at the bedside, so I was satisfied with that.
