What are the teachers like?

Im really interested in others who have completed the accelerated BSN program. Did you feel well prepared?

Hi. I attended and graduated from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 98. I actually did their accelerated program. It was expensive then and still is, however it was really a wonderful nursing program. The classes are smaller and the instructors are really able to work with you more (or they were then). I have recommended others to this nursing program. I would be happy to answer any questions you have of my experience.

did they "police" you like it has been mentioned by other posters? were you required to go to chapel?

did you have a BS in another degree or were you a lpn or a student with 90 credits?

what is it like going through the accelerated program? did you feel like you learned enough to be "set free" at the end?

I just started MNU ABSN this Jan. and I am very excited to be a student there. The instructors are truly caring and are genuinely interested in your success. Best of luck on our decision.

in your opinion is it harder to get into the traditional or the absn? do you mind sharing your stats gpa ect...

what is the average age of a student in the ABSN?

also...since the price tag is steep were you able to get financial aid/scholarships to help knock out the cost a bit?

The nazarene school I went to,

we did have to sign a lifestyle covenent. basically saying we wouldn't smoke, drink ,so drugs, or gamble. However if someone has a problem with one of these things and self identifies and does the needed therapy at the on campus therapy center, then you did not get in as much trouble.

The did "police" us to a certian extent, mostly through facebook. however the did not send people driving around looking for rule brakers. chapel was required for traditional undergrad students. adult study and graduate study students were not required to attend

good to know!

i dont have a problem with chapel..but its just one more thing Id have to do that would take up time..and time away from my kids and husband....so im glad its not usually required for adult study students.

I'm not sure if it is harder to get in than other schools because this is the only school I applied to. I am a returning MNU student - I was in their MHR (Management & Human Resources) program several years ago & had a wonderful experience so I was glad to return.

I'm not 100% positive but I thought they said there were 125 applicants to this year's ABSN and they accepted 35. To answer your other questions, I'm 40 years old & have a 3.7 GPA - I'd guess average student in our program is mid-late thirties but not sure on avg GPA.

It is a 12 month program and it used to be 18 months so it's changed a lot. Yes, it's very expensive @ $36k plus books & supplies but when you consider you get a BSN in 1 years it's not that bad. They are very helpful with student loan process and I know some have received substantial scholarships to help offset costs too.

Im 27 and my gpa is around 3.5 right now...but I dont have a previous bachelor degree...so my only options are getting the rest of the 90 credits I need or getting my LPN.

Are there many in your class that are previous LPN's or students with just 90 credits..no bachelor? Do they prefer one type of student to another..like the LPN's over the 90 credits..or the bachelor prepared students over LPN's ect?

I think there are only 2 of us in the program, the rest have previous degrees. I'm only aware of one LPN. I honestly don't think they "prefer" a type of student but rather they focus on GPA, application essays & resumes, and maturity/ability to handle the pace of an accelerated program.

Im extremely motivated to do this and even willing to relocate closer as im an hour away right now.

Ive been trying to finish nursing school since I was 18..and like you life and circumstance got in the way.

did you take the 4 hours AP classes?

I have already taken AP but it was a 5 hour class...so now im short 1 hour of the 19 required...im taking a 5 hour micro class this semester and I've previously taken a 5 hour chem class and a 3 hour nutrition class...which is only 18 hours. I see they also list Genetics as a possible science class... I wonder if they would accept my general biology class to full fill the requirement.?

oh i did have another question.

Are they looking for just 90 credits in "whatever" as long as the pre reqs and GE classes are satisfied? Some of my previous credits are "fluff" classes... like a computers for health care... applied math... then I also have a CNA course...as well as the regular classes like gen bio, general psych, nutrition, ect

I took A + P separately, chemistry, nutrition and I also had biology. I think it depends on where you took the biology class & what it covered. They will likely do a quick transcript evaluation with you on your visit if you take unofficial copies with you, that's what I did.
