Kolohe, I try to see all sides too, but I can't on this one issue because they already have gotten rate hikes. There was no hurricane in FL this past year, yet they raise rates over $1000.00 a year? Sorry, from all angles that's not right.

I'm quite thankful for my many blessing this Thanksgiving.

I think my veggie pot pie is going to be good. Turns out the cassarole dish I bouth was too big and had the right size in my possession after all. Have about 15 minutes for the pie to get done, then going to take a shower. The dinner is at 2pm which is a very good time. Gives us time to cook, but it's not too late either.

Kolohe, in response to all those hurricanes our insurance rates have gone up ten-fold, or just flat out canceled. The insurance industry has trillion assets to pull upon. I understand that I live in a hurricane prone area. What I don't understand is that how can they justify raising my rate $1,000 this past year after all the hikes they've already done over the years? There is no justification in my mind for that. I'm paying $5500 for insurance on a modest middle class home. Also, I was rezoned into a higher flood zone area and forced to buy flood insurance (fortunately at a grandfathered rate of $1100 a year instead of $3300) when there has never, repeat NEVER, been a documented flood in this neighborhood. Even the year we had those three back to back hurricanes, and numerous tropical storms...I've had 10 inches of rain dumped on me and no flood. There is no justification for this rezoning other than greed in my opinoin. I know the day will likely come when I will be slamed with a storm and be greatful for the insurance, but in the meantime don't get me started. LOL

That rant aside, I think I have a job. I was looking up my paycheck online and decided to check what jobs were open, expecting to see none due to a hiring freeze, and there was on on the orhto-joint unit.....a nice quiet 8-bed unit. I inquired confidentially with the manager, whom I've known for 18 years, if it was legit because sometimes they advertise jobs when there isn't one. Long story short, she said she'd love to have me and is holding the job until I can talk to my boss. Through a restructure he is also the boss of this unit and the manager is afraid he won't let me come. I'm hopeful he won't hold me back and I that I have new job as a floor nurse, in a sweet unit. They often close during low census and we have to float which would be great because I'm one of those weird folks that likes to float. Keep your fingers crossed that it works out.

The cookies are great. I just had one for breakfast. Nice and chewy, not too sweet, nutty. Success! Today I'm going to finish up the grocery shopping and make a bean salad. I have a big bowl of yellow wax beans that I got from the farm and I'm thinking bean salad would be a good thing to do with that. Tomorrow I'll cook a veggie pot pie and bring that, the beans, and the cookies with me to my friends for a nice Thanksgiving meal. He said he'll have a couple of vegan things too....he knows what vegan is so it should be o.k.

Pat, you mean I didn't mention the $1000 work-up, dental cleanings my dogs had back in August??? They are doing great. The oldest is going to turn 15 next month and is completely blind in his left eye and I'm noticing a cataract in the other one. He's already bumping into things. His appetite isn't what it once was either. He frequently will pass on breakfast like he did today, and he's skin and bones.

I have a "wind inspection" today. I'm hoping to get some credit to lower my insurance bill which inexplectedly went up $1000.00 this year. When I called to complain there was no reason other than "the cost to replace your home if it's damaged has gone up". I lowered some of the deductables and this is one chance to cost some more. If they don't lower it, I'll have to shop around, but it's hard to get homeowners/hurricane in Florida still.

Going to bake Thanksgiving cookies this afternoon. Hope they turn out, I'm not the worlds best baker by no means.

Not a lot going on. Got up early. Been to Walmart and the Asian store. Was looking to see what kind of Indian food they had which wasn't much. I found an Indian store nearby on the internet and will check them out sometime this week hopefully.

I got a text message this AM that my flight gate had been changed. Funny because I flew in last week. I was supposed to fly home today from Newark.

Vegan cookies are amazingly good. There's even cookbooks like "Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar" devoted to cookies. Alternative Baking Company makes amazing vegan cookies to die for. http://www.alternativebaking.com/index.cfm

My plan is to make cookies on Tuesday and if they suck, I won't bring them to the Thanksgiving party. I think I decided on Pumpkin Oatmeal. I'm just not a baker, but I can follow a recipe.

Up early again today. Going to the gym before church and the usual Sunday routine. Have clothes in the wash.

Didn't really do anything last night and for a brief moment in time was actually bored. Most of my Saturday night buddies thought I was sick and didn't bother me. I still have some minor little projects to achieve. I think I was more lazy than bored. Won't happen today though. It's muggy warm and I came close to using the air conditioner yesterday.

Up early. Feeling much better. Not 100% myself, but good enough not to be slowed down. I'm going to the gym this AM, then to get my bounty from the CSA. They are delivering to the Saturday street market this year and I'm going to love not having to drive across the bay just to get the food.

Coming up with a Thanksgiving plans to bring to the dinner I've been invited to. As the only vegan there, I want to bring something spectacular. I'm a good cook for the most part and have decided on a pot pie, which I've never made before, so I'm going to be brave and use my friends as guina pigs. I'm also going to try to make some vegan cookies, which should be interesting.

Thanks Pat! I'm not sure I can dance anymore, much less Turkey Dance...LOL

Still feeling a bit under the weather. Just got up from a nap and feeling better. Was supposed to go to the doggie beach with a friend, but he never called and I was glad. May or may not go to my meeting.

I was all set to make cajun beans and there's no onion in the house....ugh....I'll have to go out because when I have a hankering, dangit I have a hankering. (Southern word).

Not feeling hot this AM. Tired, run down, blah blah blah whine. What a vacation eh?

Had a good time at the beach yesterday with my friend Rob. Perfect weather, and nice spot for lunch that indeed had vegan black beans and rice. Loved it.

Today I'm just going to lay low, go to the gym, shopping for some food and then relax. I was thinking about going to a men's 12-step meeting tonight that I like, but never go to, but we'll see how I feel.

I sent an email to one of the managers inquiring about a floor position one of her units that's advertised. It's a very small "joint" unit that takes care of post-op ortho patients, a cake walk, but I find it really hard to believe there's an opening. I'm sure it's just a formailty that it's posted. Kind of like when they posted my old job but the manager had already hired someone. The thought of going back to the admit transfer center desk job depresses me. But I'm glad to have a job to go back to. I'll probably wait until after the holidays to do anything.

Went to sleep at around 2AM last night....still can't get my pattern down. Someone called at 0800 and woke me up, so I'm up. Maybe if I just force myself up, I'll fall asleep at a decent hour like midmight. Probably is the long naps I like to take.

Meeting a friend today for lunch on the beach. I think they have beans and rice there and I'm hoping it's vegan, otherwise it's probably just lettuce for me. Eating out as a vegan can be a pain, but I'm committed and that's just going to have to be the way it is.

If I feel up to it, I want to go to yoga tonight. I need to get back into my routine of exercise and yoga and that will help with this jet lag I'm sure.

No entry yesterday? Funny I do remember coming to the journals and reading them, but I guess I didn't have anything to say.

Yesterday is kind of a blur anyway. Didn't do much. Ran some errands, watched a movie and played on the interet. Today I'm going to gym, maybe cook something, do a little house work. Meeting with the church convent group tonight.

I'm still not sleeping well at night. Didn't go to bed until 2AMish which is an hour earlier than last night, so maybe I'm getting there. I remember last year this time coming back from Thailand it took me a week to finally be able to go to bed at a decent hour.

Chilly mornings (by my Floridian standards) but nice warm days in the sunny 70s and it may even hit 80 today. I hope to make it to the doggie beach sometime this week and enjoy the weather with the dogs.
