quickie update
Date Posted: Nov 04, 2009 at 11:01 AM - Comments (1)
Decided I better blow back in and let everyone know I am still exisiting. I had to have a knee replacement. I am in recovery and going to physical therapy 3 times a week. My knee has not been functioning normally for over a year so the therapy is very painful. It has been difficult to endure. Officially off work until January. I am going to go crazy being off for three months. Hell of a way to get the holidays off. Still having ongoing computer issues at times which makes logging on regularly difficult. Family is fine. Hope everyone is doing well.

I am working on an article to submit in the essay contest. I have already managed to scribble 8 pages in a notebook.

I was charge nurse today and it went well- only sent one to ICU today. ST elevation and then new onset of A fib with RVR.

After 11am I was on overtime so it was a good day.
cha cha changes

Well, methinks the radiology position is out. I had my second opinion regarding my knee issue and he agrees with the first. I need a Total Knee Replacement. Just a matter of how much pain and for how long I am willing to put up with it before i get it. Not fair to the Radiology Dept for me to get the position and then have to take an extended leave....

Put in for a transfer to be the Radiology Nurse/Educator for the hopsital I am currently working for. I am excited and nervous. I need the 8 hr shifts it offers for my knee issue. Mon-Fri is appealing . I am tired of the 12 hr shifts. I will also be the educator for the unit which is intersting to me. I will also have an office. I haven't had an office for 10 yrs.

I need a change. I hope I like it.

Beaches are beautiful

The sand is so white here in Florida! I am used to brown sand and brown water to match. Stayed out at the beach for about 4 hrs. Heat index is > 100. Grilling burgers tonight!nbch:
Here in Florida!!

Well the trip here was rough. Mainly, arguing with my husband. We apparently don't travel well long distances!! Had about the best shrimp I've had in along time. Yummy!

By the way, I had another MRI of my knee which shows severe wearing of my cartlidge and the treatment is a total knee. Being fitted for a brace and getting another fake joint fluid shot on Monday when I get back. Not going to think about my future right now. I am on vaca!
bedside
Date Posted: Jun 06, 2009 at 02:01 PM - Comments (0)
Spending the day cleaning up and doing laundry. Knee is feeling about the same- chronically hurting. Realistically wondering how long I will be able to do bedside nursing. I have been at my hospital for almost 10 years and I am wondering what would happen if I said I can't do it anymore. Would they say "see ya" or try and work with me somehow...

On for the next three days and then pretty much off until the following Wed. Have education stuff to do Thursday and early Saturday we are off to Florida for a week. I cannot wait.
Fall Precautions
Date Posted: Jun 01, 2009 at 11:30 AM - Comments (0)
I slipped on some water in my patients room and fell on Saturday. I landed on my butt but twisted my already jacked up knee. Stayed the day but ended up going to the ER the next day to have everything documented since it was an on the job accident. The ER doc sent me home to RICE it. It is more swollen and painfull but I have been dealing with a knee issue for > 6mos. I guess I need to band myself with a yellow fall band.
cartoon bodies

Supposed to be off tomorrow. As the Unit Educator of the floor I was going to an inservice on chest tubes but I am not prepared. I didn't really advertise so no biggie. I will probably go in and work on my clinical ladder. If I get all my paperwork in it means an extra $100 or $150/mth. I am already doing what is required so I might as well get credit, right?

Better day today because I wasn't charge nurse. I had my own group of 5 to worry about not 24. It started out crazy again but managed to smooth out later in the day. I received some very nice compliments from my patients and family. Almost makes the day from hell yesterday worth it- almost.

We have a display in our hallway at the hospital. We took pictures of the staff (docs included) and cut and pasted the heads on these cartoon children-type bodies. The backgroud is a very colorful summertime day with a large tree. Some of us are playing tennis, others have a baseball bat, etc... It is so hilarious. The doctors, staff, visitors and patients love it. We are planning to change up the background to match the seasons.

Dd has one more day of school. It will be nice not worrying about getting her from school but other worries will replace those...where she is, who she is with...ah, the joy of teenagers.
