  1. My name is Melissa. I am a second semester ADN student. They had told us that this semester was the major weed-out; well I believe it. It is not so much the material but the schedule and constant level of stress and anxiety that could push you over the edge.

I am 28, and in NC. I have a Social Work degree from UNCG - I mean no disrespect to social work, but my goodness that was a degree in "underwater basket weaving" compared to this. I worked fulltime while getting my BSW. I can barely work 10 - 15 hours a week while getting my ADN.

Despite all the stress I am really excited about my new career path. After my ADN and passing the NCLEX I plan to get my RN/BSN. Once I get my BSN then I want to do travel nursing in the ICU. The ultimate goal is to get my CRNA.

This will sound really corney but I love it when I am watching Grey's Anatomy, ER, or maybe a surgical show and things sound familiar. I love when I know the medical terms that are being said. I love going on the floor for clinicals and being able to piece things together. I just have to hang on to those moments of excitement to pull me through the times of absolute stress and anxiety.

I look forward to learning from some of the veteran nurses in the forum, but also finding support with my fellow students.

Thanks so much for the encouragement. I keep telling myself that it will be worth it. Some days are easier to believe that than others . Are you currently a nurse? If so how long?
