Good thread! I live in Wyoming and have been accepted into the nursing program at the local cc this fall. I have three kiddos - 10, 6, and 4. I'm an oddball in that I have no idea what area of nursing I want to work in - my plan is to figure it out as I go! I've done more "excluding" than anything (no L&D, no peds). My former life was spent as a government worker - spent several years as a non-uniformed supervisor in a law enforcement agency, then went on to work for a licensing board (not nursing, though). I decided I didn't want to spend my life enforcing rules that exist just for the sake of raising money and waste my time and talents sitting at a desk, so here I am at 34 years old!

I'm in Oklahoma, in my third research area (now in head & neck, mostly cancer, mostly not-for-profit studies). I've also worked in psychiatry research (mostly drug studies) for 12 years, and NIH studies for 2 years.

I got my nursing degree in 2000; had wanted to go back to school since 1990 but my then husband disagreed. Once I divorced him in 1997 (which had nothing to do with school!) I was enrolled in school two days later.

I have two children; one is 20, in school for LPN, married last October and moved to San Diego; the other one is 15 and wants to be a game designer.

I have a previous degree in French, minor Spanish; have worked as a teacher, in advertising, and also a brief stint as a French & Spanish reservation taker.

I also do hypnotherapy. It's not the cure-all some practitioners would have you believe, but it works very well for chronic pain (only with MD consent, mind you), smoking, insomnia, irritable bowel, stress, and (for some people) weight loss.
