- Jul 30, '12 by GitanoRNregarding on how to be a good nurse, in my humble opinion, a good nurse lives the following values and clearly understands themselves and their role in our beloved profession and these go as follows...a good nurse is compassionate, a good nurse is empathetic, a good nurse is selfless, a good nurse is technically strong with a thirst for knowledge, a good nurse is self aware, a good nurse is a team worker, a good nurse listens to their patients concerns, a good nurse is their patient advocate. wishing you the very best in all of your future endeavors...aloha~

I would also add, take advantage of your orientation, you will be learning new things everyday. Don't be afraid to say you don't know how to do something. If you feel unsure about something, have someone with you the first time to talk you through it. Don't forget to celebrate your small accomplishments. (Hey, today I did this a little quicker ) People always say it takes 6 months to a year to feel more comfortable and more independent. Remember, you will get there. Good luck to you.
