Reentering my Nursing Career

  1. I guess I need some advice or direction in how to go about reentering my nusing career. I started a job in the OR about two and a half years ago and was doing well. I had a family health crises that caused me to give up my position so as I could be a caregiver to my Mom. I am also a certified personal trainer and used that as income because it allowed me the flexibility to be available. My Mom has since passed away and I'm eagar to get back into the OR. I've posted several resumes online and keep getting responses from recruiters and traveling nurse companies. There just doesn't seem to be much opportunity out there for nures that want to reenter. I've kept my license current and active but can't seem to even get an interview. I've been an RN for 14 yrs. with a backround in ICU, Infusions, Home Infusions and the OR. I loved the OR and that's where I want to be. Please any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[font=franklin gothic medium]how about a local hospital? maybe apply for "any area" including or and see what they come up with. ??? i am thinking that most hospitals wouldn't mind giving you a nice long orientation period to help you ease back into it, considering your past experience.

i've applied to all the local hospitals. there must not be any need for nurses in the or in these hospitals. i guess i'm being picky but i have never been a floor nurse and that's seems to be all they have openings for. thank you for your reply.

Wow, I can't believe you are having problems! Are you willing to relocate? Have you checked out nursing journels or the paper your state's board of nursing puts out?
    Good luck!

I'm willing to relocate but not to an area that I don't think I would be happy living. I get Nurse Week and Nursing Spectrum. I've actually applied for my license in FL in the Fort Lauderdale or Miami area. Thanks for the reply.
