Old dog, new tricks

  1. Hi everyone!

Just joined up. Just wanted to announce my presence, and add a little about me.

I'm 47, and I'm starting in this field just short of 25 years as a journalist. We all know how that particular industry stands nowadays. I promise that when I got into it it still had potential to do some good.

In any event, I got laid off ahead of a corporate reacquisition in May 2015. Been funemployed since, except it wasn't that much fun, since I ended up moving home to watch my dad slowly succumb to CHF (in March) and help my mom with her second hip replacement (in September).

But the pivotal part is that in March I took some contact work to help doctors and nurses at a local hospital learn how to navigate the Epic EHR system. For five months I was daily stationed in its ICU, where I helped those nurses do their thing. I suppose it was there that I got the bug.

So, to make this short, I just graduated from CNA training two days ago, and I'm looking for work in the area. After I get it, I plan to register for an ASN in the spring. I don't know if I'll make a good nurse, but I think I might. The nice thing about being old and doing new things is the knowledge that every moment counts.

I hope to learn a lot while I'm here, and share my experiences along the way. And I look forward to getting to know y'all along the way. Thanks for reading this far etc.
