Nice to re-meet you!

    Hello-

Actually joined the discussion board some time ago but just now starting to use the website. Talk about a lot of content - wow! Someone has put some work into this.

Since I'll be meeting some of you, I'll introduce myself. Midlife career changer into nursing, live in Chicago, IL suburbs. Used to be a scientist, got my BSN and RN after getting laid off from previous career in the aftermath of 9-11. Married 15 years, no kids, aged 44. Like doing martial arts (Hap Ki Do) and sports, and enjoy jazz music.

What questions do I have? Well, I couple of things...

    a. Re-entry into the field. I ran into a bump in the road after getting my license and working med-surg on a busy floor for eight months. Found out I had a congenital foot condition that required surgery. Not the best news for an RN! Good news - I'm healthy and good-togood and in excellent shape physically. Bad news: I had to take a non-nursing position for a year, to stay off my feet and allow things to heal completely. yes, that's a long time - but for my specific condition, the std. recovery time is 12-15 months.
To make a long story short, I want to get back into the field, and would appreciate any advice on doing so. Adminstrators - should I put inquiries in the career transition area?

    b. Considering military nursing - see there's a section for that.

Last but not least: This website is big! Any tips on locating previous posts to check for responses? I posted once or twice before, and couldn't find my posts. Perhaps I'm dense - but couldn't see 'em. Any tips?

Thanks again and gald to be here....
