Hi Everyone! I am so glad I found this site! I am a 44-year-old pre-req nursing student, married, mom to 14 y/o identical twin boys, part-time medical transcriptionist. The MT field is coming to a close with outsourcing and voice recognition and no growth potential.

I prayed to God feverntly for about 6 months for direction and purpose in my new second career after aimlessly taking on-line classes and changing my major 10 times over the last 2 years! This past October my sister-in-law was diagnosed with stage III ovarian cancer and I became her caretaker postop for two solid weeks. My eyes were opened to my meaning and fulfillment in life - to care, to have compassion, and to love, in addition to my love for A & P. I looked out of the hospital window and in bold letters, plain as day read the words: U of M School of Nursing. My prayer has been answered. I never thought my prayer would have been answered so blatantly. I am very nervous and worried how I will juggle being a full-time student, wife and mom and hopefully holding down a part-time job for the much needed income.

I, too, have been displaced by technology. I'm starting CNA class in a couple of weeks (a couple of weeks before I turn 49). I want to go on to become a RN. I'm just tired of desk work. I know I can do it mentally. Although I have no money (I am going to school through a program for displaced workers); I have a family to support; and my body rebels on me at times, among other things. But I have a lifetime full of experiences, a little more wisdom than some of the younger students (although I learn from younger people all the time), and the lack of leisure to take this seriously.

I would like to see how you're doing on your quest to become a nurse.

    Smiles,

    Carol

Keep sending those cards and letters in. You will hit the jackpot someday. Then when you get a job you will know why there is so much Madness on this board. Welcome, Fun Seeker.
