I am new to allnurses.com and I look forward to chatting with all of you. I have always wanted to go to school to become a nurse but found that I didn't want to have to wait on the waiting list because I thought that my motivation of going back to school would be lost, I wanted to go right away. Also, the school course schedule wasn't possible for me, because I worked during the day. So I started taking real estate courses and started working in banking. I have never gotten into sales at all so I decided that I definitely want to be in the healthcare field. I started taking some courses and found that I enjoyed them very much. I am very interested in medicine and how the body works. I am currently on the waiting list for the LPN program and I'm taking some of the classes required while I'm waiting. I can't wait to get into the program fully! I am thinking of possibly pursuing the RN program and maybe getting my bachelors degree. I would like to work in the OB/GYN area or with cancer patients or maybe even the surgery team. I guess I'm not 100% sure yet. Any suggestions on how I could proceed with my nursing career or what was the easiest way for you to decide what part of nursing or healthcare to get into?? Thanks for any helpful hints you can offer! :wink2:

Welcome to the site! You might check into volunteer opportunities at a local hospital. It's a great way to see healthcare up close!

Good luck to you.
During clinicals in nursing we get exposure to various areas. No need to make up your mind now what area to go into to. The LPN to RN route is a good way to go given your situation.

Thank you for the tips! I really appreciate it. I'm sure once I'm in the clinicals I will be able to make up my mind easier. Thanks again!
