New Nursing Student

  1. [font=Arial Narrow]Hello, I am a new member here and a new nursing student as well. I wanted to join a forum where I can discuss nursing issues with others who are either already in the field, or pursuing educational goals like I am. I am 28 years old and entering a totally different field from that wish I have studied before.

    [font=Arial Narrow]I was wondering if anyone out there has any studying tips for me. Specifically, I find it a little hard memorizing the different terms, body parts, microbs lol. Do you guys know of any helpful aides in studying or human anatomy made easy publications?:chuckle I would really really appreciate it.

    [font=Arial Narrow]Thanks so much!

    Coming from my previous educational background in IT, I found A&P excruciatingly difficult! I wasn't used to having to memorize things... And then a friend introduced me to flashcards! I won't say it was smooth sailing after that, but I felt like I at least had wind in my sails.

    I really appreciate your response. I have been using flashcards and that has been helpful. Thanks for taking the time out to help me.

    Hi there, I had a problem with remembering nursing terms, but I studied with a friend and everytime we talked(even informal conversation) we would use nursing terms and so we got used to it. It becomes part of your daily language

    I'm in my 4th year of school but going into my 2nd semester in the upper division and I always found it helpful to draw pictures and label them because you can visualize them during tests.

    Anatomy Coloring Book
    Physiology Coloring Book
    Microbiology Coloring Book

    Coloring the labels and the pictures helped it all stick in my head - I used very vibrant colors so that I could visualize the picture come test time.

    All of the above mentioned books are available thru Amazon.com I used one set from the same publisher, but there are multiple versions of similar books, including one dedicated to just the brain + nervous system and one to the musculoskeletal system.

    You'll get it...it's like learning a different language (literally - most of it is Latin) you have to use it and get used to it.

    Good luck in school!

    Good luck and welcome. No advice there, everyone has their own way of learning. I'm just the type that memorized exactly what I had to learn without mnemomics or anything. Then I forgot it rather quickly. LOL
