new DON position

  1. This is my first time here, hope I can get some information on what duties are required of a DON. I just got promoted and i'm scared to death that I'll forget something. Is there a course I can take or a book i can read? Help.

First of all welcome to allnurses! :hatparty: I know you will enjoy your time here. As a new Director of Nursing, there are plenty of posts and threads to give you good information on management styles as well as ideas. There are many experienced managers that post here. You might want to check out the Nursing Management Forum. Lots to read and many great ideas for turn-over, leadership ideas, etc.

You did not mention in what area you are a Director of Nursing ..... home health, long term care or acute care. Let us know. In addition, if you are in long term care and need resources on the MDS and State/Federal Regulations, let us know. There are many wonderful LTC Directors of Nursing that frequent the board and I am sure they would be willing to give you some pointers on these topics. If you are in LTC .... there is a wonderful LTC forum.

Most of all, please enjoy your time here. I am certain you will find many new friends.
