Hello there. Before buying a domain for example like microsoft.com, you need a "hosting provider". Now I don't know how well you know "web languages" like html,java,etc.. but if your a novice programer I would suggest paying for a decent "hosting provider". totalchoicehosting.com is a very affordable provider, you can buy a domain and a hosting package in one shot. Good luck!!

Both my websites are free ones that do not have advertising or annoying pop-ups.. One is through my internet provider, Comcast.

It sounds like you want a really easy one--a "point and click" type of self-design--

Here are few really cheap ways: Go to www.discgotech.net

    Or, www.dotearth.com

    Even cheaper: www.godaddy.com

You can register any domain name you want, as long as it is available. They also have website building and hosting packages.

If you want to build your own from scratch, you can download a free trial of Dreamweaver, or Frontpage, and then obtain a domain name and register it, but if you want to keep it simple and save time, check out one of the above sites.

Definitely a vote here for www.GoDaddy.com I actually use them for my school's site. I created it and their software is very easy to use.

i made a website in memory of my son through geocities. they have a free set up that does have an ad on it, but the ad disappears after a moment. they also have different $$$ amounts where you can register your own domain name. it is fairly easy to do-i consider myself computer illiterate and it was not that hard.

I use http://www.hostsave.com/ and have never had a problem with them. Also use Frontpage web design software.

I use www.doteasy.com for both my domain registration and hosting my pages. They are very basic, but I only pay $25 per year.

Thanks for all the information regarding hosting and web development. Another question, how long will these replies to my thread stay active? There were many good sites to check out and I want to refer to the info later...I did not know you could use free Front Page and Dreamweaver, my friend suggested Stargate to host.....
