Introducing myself

  1. Hello to Everyone, I am Tina,
I am about to start on the adventure of a lifetime. I will be starting school on Aug 16, 04 on my way to ultimately becoming an RN. I will be leaving a job the end of this month that I have been at for over 3 years but I know that the time has come for me to move on. As you could imagine I am a little nervous but I have all the faith that I can do it. I look forward to meeting some nice people here. I think this site is great and I have enjoyed reading the postings.

Welcome Tina! I see that we are about the same age--I will be 33 on August 8th and I'm about to start a 2 year RN program on August 24th!!! It's been 14 years since I've attended school (except for a semester taking 1 course) and I'm nervous about how I'm going to handle juggling school and my family! Thank God I don't have to work also! Anyway; I've been coming to this board for a while now and there is so much great advice here! I've sure learned alot in the small amount of time I've been here!

Good luck with school. I'm looking forward to sharing experiences with you!

    Hi Tina and Jennielynn,
I'm another one very similar to you guys. I'm also 32 and just left a job to return to school this fall. I'm quite nervous about returning to school also, though it hasn't been all that long. I only graduated in 2001, but with a useless degree. I wish I hadn't wasted my time. Oh well.
I am partnered with no kids but some dogs and am also looking forward to meeting people here. I've been reading a bit and there is so much information sharing that I think this site could really be of help as we're going through school. I look forward to it.

Hi Tina, nice to see people that are going through the same thing as I am. I'm starting Aug 19th on pre-requisites. I'm 26 and a mother of 2 little girls Saylor Deanna (2) and Bradyn Ainsley (4months) and a husband (32 but acts 15)..lol..
I'm really getting excited about school and the fact that I'm doing something for me now. I can't wait to be a nurse it has been my passion for such a long time. I put everything on hold to get married and have children and now that that is done time to start on something new and exciting. I wish you the best of luck and hope to hear from you....Support is a great thing.

    Hi Everybody,

I am so excited to see all the people in pretty much the same situation that I am. I wish you all the best of luck but hey I know we can do it. At least we have taken the first steps. I see most of us are pretty much all in the same boat. I myself just turned 33 in June and I have a husband who is deployed to Iraq, right in the heart of Baghdad and I have a 4 year old daughter who seems to have been born with an endless amount of energy I finally made up my mind to just go for it after putting this off for 7 years. Good luck to all

Good for you !! I'm 40, a dad, and have another little monster about to enter the world any day now. This is my 10th year as a nurse, and I thank God I found nursing. Good luck with your studies. You have challenges ahead, but it's well worth it.

    Hi Jennielynn
Wow we do have quite a bit in common. I am excited about finally starting school but at the same time I am beginnng to get a little nervous. Have you taken any of your pre-reqs yet. I haven't so I will have to do the whole thing. I haven't been in a classroom since I graduated high school so I know how you feel. Good luck to you too and I hope to keep in touch.

    Hi Beccaleigh and Trees,

Good to know that I am not alone in my endeavor. I see that we are all about the same age with similar situations in life. I wish you guys the best of luck and hey lets stay in touch. I have a husband that sometimes acts like he is 15 too so I know exactly what you are talking about That's my baby though. He is sacrificing a lot so that I can make my dream come true as well as fighting for our country so I can't complain. Well take care guys.

RN2B33: wow--you really have your hands full; huh? A little off the topic but just wanted to say that even though I don't know your husband; you can bet in my heart I appreciate what he's doing for our country! I come from a long line of military men--so I know how important it is to let them know we are behind them 100%!

I haven't had to take any pre req's except a college level course (I chose A&P I) to prove to the nursing director that I could pass it. So, I will be taking a full course load the whole way through. I'm nervous--yet excited! I too, have put aside my dreams to raise my family and now it's time to focus on MOM for a little. I'll still have hubby & kids to take care of; but atleast I know I'm doing something for myself too. I've dreamt of being a nurse since I was a little girl; and now I have the opportunity to make that dream come true! It's funny--I realized while taking my A&P course that I appreciate my education a whole lot more now than I did when I was younger---maybe my "raincheck" on pursuing my passion was a well though out plan devised by someone higher than I!!!

I wish you luck in school and with juggling family life. I don't know what I'd do w/out the suppport of my dh; and although your husband supports your decision too--it must be hard not having him home. I will keep you and your family in my prayers and I look forward to sharing our nursing school experiences!!!
