I'm a baby nurse new to the scene

  1. ok, maybe not even a baby nurse, i guess you could say still in the womb, my due date is may 07 ... then i'll be a baby nurse.
i'm very excited in finding this site because i have so many questions and i'm unsure who the appropriate person to ask is.

    a brief intro:
i'm 26yrs old, female nursing student. i have wanted to be a nurse for a long time (prefer to say that i took the scenic route... reason for being 26 and not achieved my bsn by the whole 4yr preplanned map of educational guidelines) i have a fondness for community health, reason being, i want to work in impoverished communities, those that are underserved, i have a great interest in working with doctors-without-borders or peace corps and am looking for any chance to gain more experience in other cultures.

so saying that, i have a few questions and was wondering if anybody had any enlightenment that they could grace my way... or just share an opinion... "beggars can't be choosers" and i'm not choosy

1.) i'm in debt up to my eyeballs with school loans, does anybody know of any sites or information that is out there that offer tuition reimbursement or any programs that could be of interest??

2.) does anybody know of anyplace where there is a great need for community outreach via nurses or more so any programs that specialize in outreach efforts that could involve nursing. (national or international)

note: that may seem like a duh question, i know there are a lot of places that need help, but i guess the question is directed towards, can anybody let me know of any programs that as a graduate i can jump into a position to help... the sites i mentioned above: peace corps and doctors without borders require 2yrs. of prior experience so that’s what i'm working on...

thanks for reading and any comments are very welcome!!
wish the best over the holidays and i hope everyone has an incredible new years!!

    hi, littlemo34!

i have two links that i can give you. one is some information about the loan forgiveness program of the indian health service. you will find that many of the loan repayment or loan forgiveness programs are sponsored by state or federal agencies that work on behalf of the impoverished or underserved.

http://www.ihs.gov/jobscareerdevelop/dhps/lrp/lrpsc.asp - indian health service loan repayment program

http://www.aamc.org/students/financi...ment/start.htm - loan repayment and forgiveness locater

you might also try doing a search on the who website.

    welcome to allnurses!

Indian Health Services would get my vote here. They probably have one of the best programs for loan forgiveness available..........and some very cool places to work.......
