i want to introduce myself

  1. I want to introduce myself. I have been a nurse for 20 months now. I got my license 12 years ago. I learn something everyday. I have learned that you are never done in 8 or 12 hours. I have learned that admissions come in when I am getting ready to have lunch or dinner. I love my job, so far...

I know this is not critical, but I am not sure I understand. You received your RN licensed 12 years ago, and started working 20 months ago? Does that mean that you had not worked in over 10 years? Just curious, that's all. Maybe I totally misunderstood your message:imbar . By the way, I am a stay-at-home Mom/RN. (Made that choice due to child care issues. I feel if I can leave things in good order at home, then I can go out to work. However, if my home is in chaos because I am not there, then I need to remain at my post until things get sorted out). Anyway, my thought most of the time is that if I don't find me a good, affordable, dedicated Nanny soon, there goes my career. For I would be timid to go back into nursing after many years out. Unless of course, I did a refresher course, first. Anyway, just wanted to know if that is where you were. Please share. Thanks.

Yes, I passed the NCLEX in 1992. I did not practice nursing for 10 years. In the meantime I stayed in my job as Supervisor of Microbiology and Immunology Laboratory until October 2002 when I decided to practice Nursing. I attended a nursing refresher course that summer of 2002. I was hired as a charge nurse in a nursing home/rehab on October 2002. I had "one" day of orientation. I was told 5 days orientation I will have. I did not really have any problems regarding nursing care. I kept my RN license even though I was not doing nursing for the 10 years and subscribed to nursing journals focusing on CE (continuing education). The RN who oriented me that day was excellent...I absorbed the things she told me. I had to learn the paperwork as days went by. The supervisor in my unit was not helpful. I persevered and learned much of the paperwork myself. I worked in that nursing home exactly one year. The ratio was 1:17 and sometimes 1:32. I am now working as a staff nurse in a medical center, telemetry unit. I Find my new job very challenging. I am now looking into Infection Control. I have very supportive family, they are my priority, without their support I would probably not able to make it.
