hi there

  1. Hello,
I'm new here...like many others. I already graduated from college, but wasn't sure exactly what direction I wanted to go in. Finally I decided I wanted to go the nursing path..I had prior hospital volunteering experience and such. I worked as a caretaker in undergrad. I feel like it's a natural career choice for me.
I'm very glad to have found this website by googling some stuff and coming to it! It has been a very very valuable resource. It helps me understand all the career options and gives me some insiders' views on their career and personal lives. Nursing would've been a hazy idea for me if not for this website. It's like having a key to an exclusive room where everyone hangs out. Great insider access.
When things seemed glum, hanging out at the forums here helped me put things in perspective and got me excited to keep going forward.
I'm taking pre-requisites part-time, in hopes of getting into an accelerated 2nd-degree BSN program. It's tough, working almost full-time as well, having to support myself (pay rent, etc etc...unfortunately i'm not a trust fund baby!).
There are some demons in my closet right now...worrying that my pre-req grades will not be good enough...worrying that my not-perfect undergrad record (well, it's still a 3.3 gpa, it's not bad, but not perfect)...might hold me back. Those kinds of insecurities. Finding it difficult to wake up for my 9AM class despite having worked laate late night at my bar waitress job. Wondering about where my current relationship will go. Feeling worried about money issues...paying my own tuition, will I be able to make the loan repayments (which will be around 200.00/month)? Stuff like that that gets me down a little. Then of course getting sick with a flu and then later a cold all in less than 2 months! Loosing money from not being able to work during that time!
I guess everyone has some blues times...and maybe I need to do more things that I enjoy (like horseback riding) to get myself psyched up to keep chugging through. Anyways, maybe i'll talk more about this stuff in other forums... I need all the support I can get, and maybe telling my stories can help others as well.
    : )

Hang in there. Nursing school is a stressful and worrisome time. You just have to stay focused on your goal, and what's in front of you one day at a time.
