hi. i am new. my name is sarah. i am almost 24 years old, married with a 4 1/2 year old son. i went to college at 18 for one semester, but than had to quit cause i had my son. he is now gonna go to kindegarten this year and i'm interested in starting school again. had too long of a break! anyhow, this past december my dad was standing outside his work trailor on a 25mph road when a drunk driver on crack hit him going 75mph. pinning him between the trailor and the car and than sending him the opposite direction before the car could run him over. thank god! he was in the hospital for 2 months and had to get his leg amputated. i went up to the hospital every single day for 2 months for 8 hours at a time. it started feeling like a second home. so much, that i was sad to leave when my dad was finally released. so i decided to go to school for nursing. i figured its only a 2 year program at my local community college, its good pay and the hospital is a few miles from my house. the thing is, now i'm scared. i haven't been in school since 1998. our college takes 120 nursing students and 800 applied last year. the top 120 people were basically 4.0 students with almost perfect scores on the test. which being out of school for this long, i know i can't be that good. after attending a nursing seminar this past week, i found out that the school is changing the entrance test into the program. previously it was just your scores from the asset test and your gpa. now they changed it to the hesi test and gpa, because there are too many people applying. now i'm scared. is there anyone that has taken this test? what do i need to know for it? i can only take it once a year. if i pass it this year, the nursing classes don't start til aug 2005. so if i don't pass it this time around, i don't think i can wait around til the following year. thats a long time. i would appreciate any help about the test so i know what to study for. thanks! and sorry this post is soooo long!

Can't help you with the test Sarah as I'm in England but I'm sure you'll get loads of advice here. Sorry to hear about your Dad, that must of been pretty awful for you.
I'm sure you'll be fine with the test. You might have had a long break from school but it wont take you long to get back into the swing of things. Good luck and welcome to the wonderful online world of allnurses, I'm sure you'll be happy here.
