Hi All, Nursing Advise Needed

  1. Hi all. I am seeking advise. I just took my boards for the second time last thursday, march the 18th. I had 265 quest the first time, :stone ugg. And after studying with kaplan course and davis review on my own, I took my time, and finished with 227 questions this time around, sigh.I had an hour and a half left and the computer shut off.I felt I did well, but I expected fewer questions the 2nd time around. My last question was something like, what is the contraindication for Tuberculin skin testing, I don't remember the exact wording. The choices were, an hiv pt, a pt who has taken the BCg orally, a pt. with an infection, or a pt on a corticosteriod. I chose the steroid, I thought it was correct, but I am still wondering if I passed or not. It has been 8 days already, I called the board, they are always busy, nothing posted on the brn ca web page and nothing my snail mail. Can anyone give me some advice as to what might be the problem. Or if they know of similar situations and how it turned out, I would appreciate it.:uhoh21:

When I took boards, it took 3 1/2 weeks to find out. I called the BON everyday, checked online everyday, and freaked out EVERYDAY cuz they were being so darn slow. Sometimes they get swamped, or I think they might do it out of meanness. Don't worry about it until you actually get your results. They didn't lose your score. :-) I know exactly how you feel!

If you can recall the exact last question, and research it to see if you picked the right answer, that will help you know if you passed. The computer would not have shut off if you got that last question right.

Good luck, and if you don't pass, I suggest a review course to assure you pass the next time.

I recall falling off my chair after I found out I passed...with my history in nursing school I was amazed. It took exactly 10 days and I got my answer off the web sight. If you passed you will see a license # after your name. If you didn't pass, as you know they will send information in the mail. I don't want to dampen your day, but all kinds of people have gotten all of the questions, some passed , some didn't. We were told in school that the computer automatically shuts down when you have either answered 51% of the questions right or you have consistantly stayed in the 1 and 2 level questions. It has nothing to do with if yu answered the last question correctly or not. I did not take any prep courses, and I did not fret until afterward as to whether I answered questions right or wrong. I had a precepter at work who told me to have a lot of confidence before and during the test, always rememember the ABC's and if you are stuck on prioritizing, put a loved one into the question and pretend you have to decide what to do on one of them..the answer will come to you. My brother who is nurse turned PA told me that you should use the alphabet to consider in prioritizing. If you think about it, he is actually right. As to the TB question, I believe you were right, because steroids are an anti inflammatory for breathing porblems and TB occurs in lungs (my logic may be wrong! ) Good luck, we all will be waiting for your answer!.....Write me

THANKS TO ALL NURSES FOR YOUR REPLIES. GOD IS SOO GOOD TO MEEEEEE HE HAS BLESSED ME WITH MY REGISTERED NURSING LISCENSE, AS OF TODAY. ALL THE HARD WORK PAID OFF:hatparty: I REMAINED CALM AND DID RELAXATION EXERCISES, AND GOD BLESSED ME WITH THIS REWARD TODAY. THANK YOU DAISY ESPECIALLY FOR YOUR KIND WORDS , YOU DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH HAPPINESS I AM FEELING RIGHT NOW. I AM TOO OVERJOYED FOR WORDS. BRN POSTED MY RESULTS TODAY ON RN.CA.GOV, AND I RETURN TO WORKING AT THE TELEMETRY UNIT TOMORROW MORNING. IT IS A DREAM COME TRUE. THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE, JUST BELIEVE IN OUR GOD, AND HE WILL MAKE YOUR DREAMS COME TRUE AS WELL.TO THOSE NURSES WHO HAVEN'T TAKEN YOUR BOARDS YET, I WISH YOU ALL GOOD LUCK, AND I AM IN THE PROCESS OF COMPILING A LIST OF TOPICS THAT i SPECIFICALLY REMEMBER WERE COVERED ON BOTH MY EXAMS. I HOPE IT WILL HELP YOU GUYS OUT, KEEP LOOKING OUT FOR MY POSTS. :hatparty:
p.s. I DID GET THE LAST QUESTION I ANSWERED ON THE CAT CORRECT. ACCORDING TO PHIPPS, POTTER AND PERRY,TB ANTIGEN SKIN TESTS SHOULD BE DEFERED IN PATIENTS ON CORTICOSTEROID THERAPY, BECAUSE THE DRUGS MASK INFECTION, AND THESE PATIENT'S IMMUNE SYSTEMS ARE COMPROMISED TO THE POINT THAT THEY CAN'T MOUNT A RESPONSE TO THE TB SKIN TEST.(AS YOU ALL KNOW, YOU HAVE TO SELECT TEXT BOOK ANSWERS ON THE NCLEX, TO SKIN THAT CAT )
