I'm new to AllNurses. You all may call me Jared, I'm 24, and I've been a CNA since 2006. I live in the southern US. I've worked in Ortho/Neuro Med/Surg for 4 years, float pool (to include ER and ICU) for about a year, LTC for about 6 months, and most recently (March 2012) I've started working as a Unit Assistant in a 12-bed Surgical/Trauma ICU at a level II trauma center.
Non-nursing related experience includes volunteering for a period of time as a firefighter in a small, rural town (we averaged about 30 calls per year, both fire and medical). I spent about 1.5/2 years in the Respiratory Therapy program before deciding on a career in EMS and Nursing, so I have a pretty vast knowledge of the respiratory and cardiac systems. As of December of last year, I'm also a Nationally Registered EMT-Basic.
I am currently in the process of finishing the last of my prerequistes (A&P I and II, Microbiology and Humanities, specifically) and hope to be accepted into the ADN program in Spring '13. (If anyone has any tips on doing well in A&P, please share here! Lol) After graduating, I plan to complete the ICU Internship where I currently work, earn my BSN, and perhaps work as a flight nurse or pursue my Master's (CRNA).
In my (little) free time, I enjoy hiking and biking on trails, reading, listening to music, hanging out with my friends and of course wasting hours surfing the internet.
If there's anything else you'd like to know about me, please don't hesitate to ask.
