Hello, I'm New, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year

  1. Hello, I just signed up for this site. I actually go here all the time through search engines but never signed up, but today I thought what the heck.

About me: I am a nursing student; will be attending UAA in april. I've been attending school off and on, full time and part time, any way I can since I was about 18. Meanwhile, working as a caregiver, cna, emt, pct, whatever you want to call me (lol) and taking care of family - which seems to be my plague as well as my blessing thus far in my small life.

Fields and Interests: Growing up in Alaska, I would say, its only natural that I have found a genuine interest for emergency and critical care. In first grade, i remember being taught how to survive an avalanche and what to do incase of a tidal wave, an earthquake, etc. I also love flying and doing anything above ground (which I also associate with my upbringing here in AK), so if i had to pick a dream job it would flight nursing, or a critical care unit. I enjoy the pre-hospital setting most but I am also very intrigued by the science and technical aspects of critical care, in general, so any chance to learn more about trauma, I am usually right on it. lol. Anyway, i think it would be something i'd be good at it and something i would definetly enjoy.

So thats me. Hope to meet some people here who share my interests and/or my situation as well anyone who feels the need to give me their best advice. lol. I would also like to do some studying in England, so if anyone has thoughts on that part of the world, please share.

Merry Christmas and have a fabulous new year,
    Sarah

    Hi Sarah!

I lived in Alaska as a child too. I was in "The Great Alaska Earthquake"

Wow, what great responses. I apologize for my newness; but I am not certain which post I am replying to or if I am simply replying to the entire thread. I guess I will soon learn!
Well, Tweety, what a frightful experience that earthquake must have been. Are you talking about the '64? I have been in quite a few rolling-ground quakes but none nearly that catastrophic, thank God. We do get some pretty awful ones here, though, don't we? My mom tells me it builds character...to the house...lol.

Do you miss alaska? I have just returned in November after being out of state for about 8 years. I have missed it sorely, though I never thought I'd say that. It really is a special place, though, and I am positive it has sculpted my interests and lifestyle.

Well, thanks again everyone for such quick replies, and overnight! I will definetly check out these other forums suggested...after I have a little Christmas!
Take care Everyone and Happy Holidays, Sarah
