Hello I'm new-and back in nursing after 10 years

  1. Hello everyone. I am new here and would like any advise I can get for returning after a 10 year absense. I don't remember a lot of what I need and am trying to brush up. I think I need to relearn 2 years worth of school in a few weeks. I will have a 3 month training period, but will that be enough? I sure hope so.

    Hi,

I am also new to the board, but I do know that there are hospitals that offer RN refresher classes. Someone I know just completed one after being out of nursing for 6 years.

I'm going back after being out of the hospital for over 18 years! I did take a refresher course and have been doing a lot of reading/review of things. I hope it all comes back! Also hope the new stuff will come easily for me, too.
    Good Luck to you!

Thanks for all of the encouragement. I will have a 3 month refresher course, and the DON has assured me that I will have all the help I need to make me comfortable in doing my job-we'll see.

Good luck to SandraJean. I don't know that I would have the courage to return after 18 years, but you more than likely have a lot more experience than I do. I only worked 2 years and had to quit because my daughter got sick and I could not handle that and working too. GOOD LUCK to you too!!!

Welcome back and hold the DON to her words. I came back after a 5 year disability and was worried like yourself but some things you just don't forget, and other things you have to learn. Good Luck.
