Hello from San Diego!

  1. Good morning everyone! I'm so pleased to be a part of this forum. I've been registered for a few weeks now on this site yet haven't made my way over here to introduce myself.

I'm a 34-year-old student, who will be finding out in a couple of months about my admittance into San Diego State University. I returned to school at the age of 32. My original goal was to go into Kinesiology and Nutrition.

I had already dug myself into a big hole with my awful grades at Humboldt State when I was 17. I wanted to return to school to not only further my education, but to prove to myself that I wasn't that student anymore, that I really could do well if I applied myself. Also, I was getting sick of my day-to-day routine of doing nothing but working too much.

In September of 2007 my darling grandmother passed away. In her last few days we had placed her in Hospice to make her comfortable. The hospice nurses and staff were so good to her, and so kind to us, that it filled my heart to bursting. My dad and I were with her when she took her last breath, which is how it should have been. I was filled with admiration and respect for these people who watched out for her in her last days.

A few weeks later I walked into my counselling office at college and changed my major to Nursing. This experience had changed my life and my views on the nursing field, and I knew that I wanted to become a part of something so much bigger. I wanted to help people as they prepared for this next part of life, patients and families. There is quiet, and there is love, and there is a sense of something so much bigger than any of us.

Anyways, I appreciate being able to be a part of this forum. I've enjoyed reading through experiences, and hopes and dreams. Keep your fingers crossed for me that I get into this wonderful nursing program!

    With respect,
