    Hi Tx_top nurse!

I'm new here too. I got accepted to Univeristy of Texas Health Science Center for the nursing program next semester!!!! Hope to meet you there!
Hi viet, I just got my letter from UT and it seems I didn't make their criteria.
I'm just curious, what did you say in the interview, or what is your gpa?
I don't know what I did wrong, I just knew I made it.
gosh this is such a heartbreaking moment.
I am happy for you and you should celebrate the moment. So you have the party I was intending to have okay?
CONGRATULATIONS !!! AND BEST OF LUCK AT UT!!!! :hatparty:

I'm sorry about you disappointing news. The week that of my interview, my grandmother passed away in Vietnam. I found out on Monday at work, and my interview for the school was supposed to be on Wednesday. I had to call Steward (is that right?) to reschedule the interview day so I could go to VN for the funeral, but he told me that that was the last week that they're doing the interviewing. In the end, he told me to come for the interview right away. 30 mins later I was in his office, sooo unprepared for the whole deal.

He asked why did I decided to go into nursing? What area would I like to go into? Why did I think of A&P? Do I think I have any problem handling the courses load? etc. I just did the best that I could. My mind was not there. In end, I thanked him for being so understanding and helping me with the scheduling.

As for GPA, 3.7. I think the most important thing on the transcript is your average in all the science course. On the UT link website, they posted your GPA in 2 categories, I think. One is the overall and the other is the science avg., my science average is 4.0.

I'm sorry about your disappointing news, again. Don't give up. You're so passionated about nursing and I really admired you for that passion!!

Hey Tx-Top...Don't give up on your dream. I was canned at UT Houston as well. I just knew(and I still know) that I knocked that interview out of the ballpark. In the end, I think that their criteria is based more on GPA than anything else...as are all schools for the most part. Anyway, a word to the wise is reapply right away. I think it says on the letter of decline that if you want to be reconsidered let them know.....you should definitely do that. My research(based on myself and other folks taht I have talked to) shows that persistence is rated / weighted just under your GPA on the importance factor scale. So if this was your first time, you see , you had no "persistence" rating. But next year, you will have that persistence rating and they WILL consider that when looking at your overall candidacy. Also,If you haven't completed a degree in "something" work towards that. There are (13 month)accelerated programs at UT Houston/UTMB and TWU that will only accept degreed candidates.I sent in my apps way back in AUG 03.I got lucky and I was interviewed at UT Houston...but was subsequently "decline"...I also applied to UTMB...was told (via letter in December 03) that my GPA wasn't competitive enough. The letter was legit, but it didn't set right with me, so I called the dean of admissions. Yada, yada, yada, and she said that she would resubmit my application for the fall 04( That's what i originally sent in the application for) Long story short......I received my acceptance letter on 4/01/04.....BEFORE I received the "decline" from UT Houston. So don't be discouraged. Reapply and stay strong to the course. I know of a girl that interviewed for both the regular and the accelerated programs at UT Houston. She received a letter of decline....and a letter of ACCEPTANCE into the Accelerated program the same DAY!!! How weird is that!

TinyNurse sorry a bit of bad news, "I wasn't accepted into their program".
Find out more info on it under general discussions " What's the deal with a 4.0 gpa?
Thanks for the welcome I feel so at home here..
Even though the party won't be for me this semester, we can still party with the others that got into nursing schools elsewhere, because to get in is truely an acheivement in itself.... (good luck guys/gals ?)

Thanks Tx! I saw the "4.0" thread.... That stinks! The school I applied to - lowest average acceptance GPA is a 3.5

I'm through with finals (taking online courses and they end early) as of today - the class I was sure I was going to fail? I ended up with a B! I'm so happy. Thanks!

    Manna that is great!!!
Hey we have something to celebrate right, right?
I think tonight you should get a bottle of wine, doesn't have to be expensive or anything, get some candles, put the kids to bed and take a candlelight bath with a glass of wine, and just enjoy the night. semesters almost over and that's one way of rewarding y0urself. oh yeah! maybe a lil soft music, and think only of you and your acheivement...
    have a great night!!!
