Experienced nurses in Florida make in the mid-20 dollar per hour range.

Yes, there are differentials for working evenings. Here our evening shift adds $2.00/hr and weekends get an extra $1.00. Night shift is an extra $4.00/hour.

The pay hasn't kept pace with the rising costs of hurricane insurance and property taxes and the middle class in Florida is strapped right now.

I think GNs make $23.00/hour after they pass boards, a little less prior to that.

I will be a RGN (HONS). In Engalnd the Nurses start on 19500 at 'D' grade level but within 6 months if they have a degree (cos osme nurses opt for diploma level) they jump to 20500 which is really poor wages.

I am looking to rent for the first year and then if we like it then maybe buy somewhere, what do you think? can you recommend any nice quiet areas of florida?

    Thanks Ang x

I live in congested Tampa Bay. The coastts are fairly congested on both sides. Areas like Spring Hill, have cheaper housing and aren't in flood zones and seem to be quiet. But I'm urban and love it here.

Check out the international and UK forums. Plenty of info there. Just a warning tho. Your training may not meet US requirements and best way once you have qualified is get CES done by CGFNS and sent to Florida BON and pay for your application and follow requirements of foreign trained nurse. THis will say whether you need to make any hours up as you need both theory and practical hours in all areas.
