to be honest not a lot an be done until you finish your training. It can be done but be prepared for a lot of patience. At the moment there is a retrogression and I am learning I haven't got as much patience as I used to as with one thing and another I have been at this process nearly 4 years. (minus 8 months that hubby changed his mind last year) Was originally told should take 8 months from passing NCLEX but reality with delays would have probably just gone out before christmas last year without hubby changing his mind

    Hi ang,

I didn't realize how much experience you need to do to go to the us. I got my community placement a few weeks ago, it looks really good. I'm out with the DN, fire crew, paramedics, walkin center, midwife, health visitor, head injury unit, in doddington and A&E. Really looking forward to it.

We did the common foundation programme too. Placements so far, i've been in the nursing home ( Not a great first placement!!! ). Second, i've done 400 hours on the stroke unit, which also had some head injury patients (this was my med placement), i loved it their, i think neuro is guna be my area, we'll have to wait an see. The next was surgery, i liked this one too, it was a bit of a mix, we had max fax op's, gall bladder removals, whipples surgery, laparotomy's and loads more. Also got to observe some gyne surgery. I spent a week in surgical recovary and intensive care. IC was a bit scary at first, some really porley people, bless em!!, i loved the one on one care their, it really does make a difference.

I've only had one 12 hr day with the diabetic nurse, hope to get some more during my white days. Got my three week elective placement coming soon (well October!!), was hoping to get to US for this, although i'm not too sure yet, been chatting on Uk forum and a few of the nurses say know people who have, so wish me good look!!! i'm investigating at the mo.

As for assigments, I've got a care summary, comparing the evidence essay, midwifery care summary, client care analysis assignement, and a load of clinical skills books to do in this part, I'm with you hun , it's a stressful time!! I've just sat an exam, so far i've passed every thing, the exam i'm not so sure. I hate em, give me assignments any day where i can't watch the clock, thats my biggest down fall. Not to worrie, well that's what i keep trying to tell myself, not working though!!.

Hope your exam goes well, i'll be thinking of you, Make sure you take a break when revising, your brain can only take so much!!

    Keep your head up chuck!!!!,
    Best of luck,
    speak soon,

Hi Kat, wow your placements are really strange!

apparently we are trained enough it's just that we need hours in areas that general nursing training does not cover, like materbity, child or psych.

just got more assignments whcih are due in in May.

maximising health potential in the community
    responding to health challenges
    intergrated nursing practice

    these are just the subjects!

the questions are something like this:

critically discuss how a collaborative approach to community care can prevent inapprpriate hospital admissions.

    or:

critically discuss the nursing care and managment of a patient admitted with an acute exacerbation of COPD

now can you help me!!! ha ha ha

    speak soon chick

Hello. Well I'm just a nursing student as of now in north florida but I lived in central florida before moving up here and actually plan to move back down to central florida after graduation. I loved it. I actually lived in Seminole county which is just north/north east of orlando. I lived in oviedo specifically and I loved it. Very nice, a bit more expensive than some places in orange county but definately cheaper than Windermere. Very good schools and safe.
I found central florida to be a nice place to live. People seem to be pretty friendly; it must be the whole disney/hospitality industry. Just be prepared for the traffic; its horrible. And toll roads everywhere.
Hope this helps. Good luck to you in your endevours!

    Hi ang,

Glad you got through your exam and i hope you get the results you want. As for being a baby, no, i'm 29 in september, how about you?

Glad to see one of us organised, i'm not to bad but i must admit i could do with getting things done a little sooner. Got some good news, i've been offered three weeks in colorardo for my elective placement, with a lady that trained as a physio in England, she's been their for five years. I'm so pleased :chuckle i didn't think it was going to be possible. I think i'm going to take a leaf out of your book and get my essays done in advance i've got a lot of organising to do if i want to do this placement.

I'm in college tomorrow and fri, then back in tuesday for the rest of the week.

    Hi Elby,

I have looked at a lot of places to live, I haven't looked at Oviedo, I will straight away. I am actually worried about getting over there, I really want to emigrate but doing Nclex and applying to the BON and everything I really am worried.
I ahve been looking at OZ but dh isn't too keen. it's much easier to get over there though.

    keep in touch

ya, was a bit worried about that, but my other half said it's a life time opportunity so he's encouraging me to go. My mum and gran have said they are going to come and stay with other half and kids when i go. I know it will be hard but i can speak to them on the phone. kids are 7 & 8, i'm going to have a chat with them about it when every thing is been arranged.

I'm hoping they'll be ok, their my pride and joy i'd hate to upset them.
