    Hi Everyone,

Thanks for making me feel welcome here. I'm 46 years old who is making a career change to nursing. I'm the single mother of a 15 year old daughter who is wonderful. I just started nursing school, but I also work full time so it will be rough road.

    Chris

Hi Chris, aren't you lucky to be able to say "15" and "wonderful" in the same breath - kudos to you Ma, you must be doing something right!

Good luck with school, even one class at a time is FORWARD, right? Check back with us sometime and let us know how you are doing!

:1luvu: I am so happy to have found this site!

I am 23 yrs. old living in FL and have been married for 18 months :blushkiss
I'm hapy about this site because there aren't that many places for me to talk to people about nursing. I have a BFA in graphic design and plan on doing that as a "hobby." I enjoy creating stationary and invitations, thats feasible on my own time. I am not a business person, so that didn't exactly work out. I have always loved biology, people (especially the elderly) and have been told that I'm compassionate, smart and empathetic.

I did a lot of praying and research and it happened to be that my best friend is a nurse and (duh) we're so similar so I looked into nursing and immediately was in awe of the professionals in this feild. It was all confirmed when I took a Summer CNA course and became certified as a nursing assistant. My plans are to apply to an Accelerated BN/MN program, there are quite a few I hear in FL. I've started that process now. I have one more class for that: Microbiology and than i'm set. Right now I'm studying for my GRE that I take on Oct. 3rd!! Its ok though, I've strapped my flashcards to myself. Anyways, I'm happy to be here and look forward to getting to know ya.

    gotta get back to studying!

    love, featherbaby

It is hard to do "art" and "business" at the same time, and true artists find that aspect distasteful from what I hear although - I bet they whistle on the way to the bank LOL!

Good luck with school! Nursing is an art as well - keep on praying and you'll do fine!

Hi! My name is Amber :hatparty: and I am a new user to the sight. It is not 2:35 a.m. the day before I am going to take the NCLEX-LPN for the first time. As you can see, I can't sleep. But that doesn't suprise me since I've been working overnights at a nursing home in Colorado :uhoh21: . But I do love my work. Anyways, I'm hoping to pass tomorrow so I can stop hurting my back and start doing what I spent the last year in school for....to be a nurse. Well, I'm going to try and get some sleep (not very likely .) Wish me luck.

    Amber
    Hi Amber,

Hope all went well for you with your test. We have been there and know the feeling well. Let us know how you did, good luck.

I am Amy, 28 yr old work at home mom to a 1 1/2-year-old and a wife too. I am originally from Minneapolis but now live in Philadelphia. I have worked in medical transcription for the past 10 years, recently promoted to quality assurance (making sure those reports are right!) and now am going through the process of applying to nursing school. I sit for the NET on 9/19 and am extremely nervous! I've been studying up a storm! After I get all of my criminal checks back, I will file the official petition and then just wait. This is for entrance in Fall 2006! Better late than never!

I am hoping to work with women who have/had postpartum depression as I went through it and it's a huge issue today.

It's great to be among all of you elite women and men!

    Hi
    Nice welcoming post!
I just became a member although I have been on this site several times throughout the past year while in nursing school. Then over the past couple of days waiting to get my board results I've been on a lot trying to figure out how the NCLEX works. I was super spazzing :imbar I'm great now though :wink2: I thought I would post on the new member site first and then skip to the forum where everyone talks about the nclex and tries to ease the fears of new grads. Oh SO glad thats over with. See you around BYE

So I just wanted to say hey, how are you, and I hope you have a good experience!

I'm 46, an RN trained in a diploma school in Maine (1981). I've done all kinds of nursing, my favorite being geriatrics, with Chemical Dependency a close second.

I currently live in Maine, have a 17 year old son (who is just beginning driver ed, ugh!). I'm a Born Again Christian (3 years) but have to say that I am not one of those thumpers, LOL! How that happened is a long strange trip, I started out Catholic, tried all kinds of religion, no religion, etc. Then I ended up in AA (1985). I learned so much about tolerance, and the fact that God works miracles in EVERYONE's life, not just the "special" (wink) people.

So along with being sober I've also had to deal with my mental health issues, depression/bipolar, anxiety, oh fun fun...

SO - feel free to say hi, in this thread or through a private note! Happy you are here, lots of wonderful people! God bless! :hatparty:

Feel free to post on this thread, and if I see you "around" I will say hello!

I would think that an extra hour spent in the library every day that you can might help - otherwise you never know if you will get a minute in! You will certainly be a great role model for those kids, I tell ya! Good luck!
