    Hi Everyone!!!

My name is Becky. I'm a wife and mother of 3. Two boys (8 & 6) and a girl (2). I've been going to school for awhile with no real goals, I guess, and finally set my mind on becoming a LPN. I live in Jacksonville, FL, where the community college offers a LPN program, that I will apply for to start their Spring term... if I get accepted, of course.

Well, I guess I gave it away that I'm not a nurse or a nursing student (yet) but I just wanted to get the views from the ones already doing it. I'm just looking for a little insight on how everything works and truthfully, make sure this is what I want to do. I'm not really looking for advice at this point, I just want to know how you guys feel about going through school and then into the work environment and if it's as rewarding as I think it would be. I know there are up's and down's, those are the things I want to know about and kind of balance it out with family life... if it works for us as a family.

Anyways, thanks for welcoming me and everyone else.

    Take care,
    Becky

I am completely unfamiliar with this site and can only hope that this note reaches its destination.. my intention had been to send a greeting to all, but couldnt figure out how to do that, so decided to read your message. I have five adored children, all grown.

    Just wanted to say hello.

I believe are turning nurses away.I wonder what will become of the profession in the future?I hope people do not lose sight of what nursing is all about!Nurses need the respect they deserve, afterall look at what all we do!!!!!!!!!!

Hi there, could not agree more with your points, YEAAH~ and then too nurses need to treat EACH OTHER with respect - team schmeam, if people don't care that you are working your fingers to the bone when they are sitting down with a magazine, hellloooo! I know we need to ASK for help but sometimes we don't even have time to do that!

Ok well LOL - nice to get stuff off your chest, huh? I do hope that you can present your points at work - the patients treat us like waitresses sometimes and can be very rude - or abusive - and you might be surprised to find that others don't even KNOW.

Good luck, hope to see you around the shuffleboard!

They are moving the deployment times up so nobody really knows. One thing the time spent overseas has taught me is to take advatage of the time you have now and to be thankful for the wonderful people in your life. That is where the real wealth is.

    Thanks-

AWESOME philosophy! Yeah, sometimes it takes something drastic to help us realize! Thank you for all your service - and CONGRATULATIONS! I'm so happy for you! WHOOO! I'm 46 also and I could see myself having another child - it's not too late.

A lot to deal with at once - a supportive partner thank God, boy you are very fortunate! Stay in touch and let us know how things are going!

This is for those who have not yet entered nursing school, different threads that discuss career options and such. There are also nursing student threads.

any chance that the military would pay for your schooling? They SHOULD - and you could go reserves or something, right?

    Good luck!

Kia Ora from New Zealand. I am a 36yr old single mum (11yr old girl & 8yr old boy) and I've just started the second year of my 3yr Nursing degree. They have actually let us loose on REAL patients this semester, which I am really enjoying. Can someone please explain all your different qualifications to me? In NZ we have EN (enrolled nurse) and RN (registered nurse) and Nurse practitioner (someone with prescribing rights).
It's nice to find this site and widen my support network. I'm a firm believer in peer support, especially when you have a difficult day and need to talk. My friends (non-nursing) just don't seem to understand. If fact some of the things I talk about mould probably make them puke!! lol
Anyway....must go, getting picked up for my shift shortly.
    Ka kite ano!

DEFINITELY our real world friends and loved ones don't "get it" - this site is AWESOME for that and much more!

This is what I can think of,

CNA Certified Nurses Aide (note I put them on top - they work HARD!)
    PCA Patient Care Assistant
SN, SPN, SRN Student nurse, student practical nurse, student registered nurse
    LPN Licensed Practical Nurse
    RN Registered Nurse
RNC Registered Nurse Certified (ie certification in geriatrics, neurology, many different areas)

Take care and let me know if that helps
