i'm new to this and this forum has been so very helpful the past few weeks, i've spent hour after hour reading it...
i'm a med student about to make the switch to nursing student and its been really nice to read all the stories and what the issues are in the field...it's been a really scary decision to make (so damn hard to get into med, i cant believe i'm giving it up now... ) but this has made it a lot easier!
    thanks

Tough choice I'm sure - but "they" say there is a reason for everything! For example, back in 90, I considered going to med school. But then I realized, waaaiiit a minute, I am looking for LESS stress, not MORE stress! Ya can't really be a doc part time - ya can't really leave your patients at work, they are yours even when you are "off".

You know, there are walls in nursing. Imagine there are in medicine. But there are fewer walls if you are able to take no crap to do what is right for your patient. And of utmost importance to the patient is that they know you CARE.

That's my lecture, we welcome yours, chuckle! Take care!

i know there are walls, i think there always are, it's really two big things with med that sit all wrong with me, i went into it cause i love being with patients...and at least here in aus docs dont really have the time...nurses are crazy busy much of the time too but they have a bit more of a chance for patient time, esp in fields like midwifery...
and its that part time thing...you can't be a part time med student or a doc! i'm getting married this yr and after everything we've been through to get married (hes american, im australia, you can geuss the visa issues right?) i would kinda like to see him once in a blue moon...with the hours of med school and 80 hour residencies it just isn't going to happen...so its nursing for me! i'm really excited to be starting actually...41 days as a med student left! can't wait...
theres my lecture! not much of a lecture i know...i geuss it just is a different path for different people, most people think i'm stark raving mad but end of the day you are the one that has to live your life not them right?
right going to go and study and try and pass my biochem exam!
    nighty night

    I'm Jenny located in Maine.

    Mom to 3 children 18, 15 and 13 1/2

I have my AD in Medical Assisting and currently work under a D.O in a Family Practice office as a Certified Medical Assistant.

Have enrolled into the AD Nursing program and waiting to hear how many of my credits will be accepted. Waiting list for clinicals looks like it will be long, but figured I atleast need to get in and start what I am able to do.

    Hi Neighbor!

Sounds exciting! Boy it is phenomenal to me, hearing about wait lists and so forth. Well those of you who have to wait are sooooo patient.

    Take Care and good luck!

    Hey, welcome to the site!

I really feel bad when I see all the threads from new people introducing themselves. There's just NO WAY that I could stop and post to each and every one of you!

So I just wanted to say hey, how are you, and I hope you have a good experience!

I'm 46, an RN trained in a diploma school in Maine (1981). I've done all kinds of nursing, my favorite being geriatrics, with Chemical Dependency a close second.

I currently live in Maine, have a 17 year old son (who is just beginning driver ed, ugh!). I'm a Born Again Christian (3 years) but have to say that I am not one of those thumpers, LOL! How that happened is a long strange trip, I started out Catholic, tried all kinds of religion, no religion, etc. Then I ended up in AA (1985). I learned so much about tolerance, and the fact that God works miracles in EVERYONE's life, not just the "special" (wink) people.

So along with being sober I've also had to deal with my mental health issues, depression/bipolar, anxiety, oh fun fun...

SO - feel free to say hi, in this thread or through a private note! Happy you are here, lots of wonderful people! God bless! :hatparty:

Feel free to post on this thread, and if I see you "around" I will say hello!
